Re-Inventing The Wheel

As everyone here has done, I purchased Mike Dillard's Magnetic Marketing Info.  It made SO much sense.  As an internet junkie, I wanted to dive full force into using these techniques.  Recently, I was speaking with someone in my upline about my new endeavors.  I was so excited...she was a wet blanket.  I could tell she couldn't 'hear' nor understand what I was talking about.  She actually said to me "Karen, just follow the basic formula.  You don't have to reinvent the wheel."  (The problem was that the formula meant hounding family, friends, and poor unsuspecting individuals who happened to be within 3 feet of me.)  I hated that formula....really HATED it.  So, have many of you had this happen with you?  I can't wait for my new and improved 'speed-racer' wheel to jet right past everyone's wooden outdated wheel.  I am looking so forward to sharing the magnetic marketing system with others...even if they don't want to join my business of choice.  If you believe you can do it, you're more than halfway done.  I look forward to reading the insights from this group.

Good stuff Karen

Great points Karen...I think the wheel of marketing is always being reinvented with the help of the ever changing technology out there that's available to everyone. What isn't changing is that fact that we all have to become the best we can be first, in our business and every aspect of our lives...if you aren't growing, then your dying.

Tired of Upline Leaders Who Think They Know It All!

I really feel for you Karen. I am tired of people in this business passing off tired methods of marketing that don't really work as "training" and then blowing a team member off if it doesn't work.

If we someone had never re-invented the wheel then we would all still be walking or at least rolling stone wheeled carts. Via la rebel thinkers who never fear shaking up "the plan."

Keep yourself positive Karen and you will always have the core element that you need to do better than those who have gone before you!

Bummer for Upline, Good for You

Karen,

Good for you for stepping up to be the leader with the vision and common sense in your business.  Don't let your upline rain on your parade.  You have everything you need to succeed in Mike Dillard's teaching and all of us here on BN.

I about gag everytime I hear a story like this.  Hard to believe they are still out there.  However, my cousin sells shaklee and does it all knee to knee, demonstrating and drawing circles.  Unbelieveable.  No thanks.

You're doing the right thing and setting the pace for your new business partners to really have something to work with and build a business with.

Karen,

One mark of a true leader is the ability/willingness to listen. The way you described your experience, it sounds as if you got shut down before having a chance to actually explain the reason behind your excitement. Shame on your up-line.

I sympathize with your lack of support. At the same time, I would caution against making the same mistake yourself. Here’s what I mean: your up-line completely discounted the on-line strategies you were attempting to convey. It would also be a mistake to completely discount “old-school” methodologies. (When I use that term I don’t mean it disparagingly.) Now, if you’re being told to “hound” people using the “3-foot rule”, double shame on your up-line. BUT, there are patterns of situational prospecting that generate awesome results.

By situational prospecting, I mean the process of turning everyday encounters into win-win prospecting conversations. It requires a mix of science and art, but it’s absolutely a skill that can be learned and mastered. When it’s done correctly, with your heart in the right place, and when it’s built on a foundation of wholesome philosophies, it’s a sight to behold. I’ve seen destinies take a 180-degree turn as a result of simple 90-second conversations.

On-line strategies are invaluable and they have an important place in today’s market. If however, we ignore the importance of developing and utilizing off-line prospecting skills, we not only pay the cost of lost business, we also force the people we don’t prospect to pay a price as well. I didn’t see this early in my career, but eventually after truly grasping what we have to offer the world, it became apparent that it’s my responsibility to be the best ambassador I can, both on-line and off-line.

So the truth is that there are two sides of “The 3-foot Rule”; the dark side and the light side. I hope this isn’t coming across as preachy, but it’s a subject I’m passionate about and indeed why I published a book on the subject. For those who care, this article does a better job of articulating the same thoughts.

Enthusiastically yours,

Russ McNeil

Something to Ponder

Mr. McNeil, I agree with you completely. There will always be "appropriate" times to share my business or its products in person. By appropriate, I mean that there is a valid reason to bring it up. Otherwise I feel as if I am out there in a wild jungle hunting for my next meal, rather than someone who has a meal to offer to a hungry man. He can take it or leave it, either way my offer was made with a sincere effort to enhance the man's life. I agree that both personal and internet marketing is the best way to build my business. But as you said there is a dark side and a light side to marketing...I choose the light.

Thank you and everyone else for responding to my post.

reinventing that old stone wheel

Mr. Wellman, Thank you for your response. You raise a good point about the stone wheel. In essence all things are always being reinvented or improved upon. Wow, think about how life would be if that weren't the case! All of life is reinvented, really, everytime the sun sets and rises. Open and positive minds...that's the best way to face every new day!

Thanks. Karen

Follow your heart and not your upline!!

Hi Karen:

Been there -- done that!!  I have been in numerous MLM companies over the last 40 years.  Goodness knows why I kept going back.  I think in my heart I knew that it could absolutely work, if only I knew how to do it right.

Then along came Mike Dillard and taught us all the best way to market ourselves and our products or information.  I must admit that when I first got Magnetic Sponsoring I read it quickly and then filed it away.  I did at least make a file folder for it!  The problem at the time was that I couldn't see how the Company I was involved in could be marketed in the way that Mike taught.

I have since joined another Company that fits right into the attraction marketing format.  I am really excited and have seen so much progress in just the last month or so.

I still believe that there are people out there who can be successful doing it the 'old school way' but they are few and far between.

Here's wishing you every success in the business you have joined.  Do it your way!!

Jan
