The A List - Personal Characteristics
What is an A-Lister? Well, here are the character traits.
- Self-motivated. Looking for people who have an intrinsic ardor that breeds self-motivation. A-Listers are people who are driven!
- Confident. He or she does not second guess himself or herself. Why should anyone believe in you if you are not confident in yourself or the opportunity you offer.
- Well Informed. A-Listers are well informed about their industry including demand for their products and services. They are abreast of applicable industry trends. What books or industry magazines are you reading?
- Excellent People Skills. A-Listers are courteous individuals who listen to people. They drill down to the needs of others and find ways to meet those needs with right opportunity. They always have a warm smile and affect. People are drawn to them because of their warmth.
- Win-Win mentality. You should always close a deal with wins for everyone. If you are the only winner in the one-sided deal, your business relationship will not last for very long.
- Integrity. There is no scamming. A-listers are honest and ethical people who tell the whole truth (even the down side). There can be no lasting business relationships without integrity.
- Mentor. A-listers are true mentors and teachers. He or she likes to see others achieve and gives them positive reinforcement. An A-Lister is quick to allocate praise to others. Empower people! A selfish and jealous person destroys his or her leadership and breeds discontent among team members. The real high for an A-lister is not recognition but watching the success unfold for those who he or she has mentored and taught. Recognition will seek and find a good mentor just as sure as the sun rises every morning.
- Problem Solver. To be successful, you have to be a problem solver. That's really what helping people is all about. The individual who needs more income has a problem. However, the solution for his or her problem is matching the person with the right business opportunity. This requires out of the box thinking or creativity as well. The best problem solvers are usually the most creative persons.
- Professional. The A-Lister uses excellent grammar; is well dressed; shoes are clean; has a business card with the appropriate contact information; has a website with his or her own domain; has a separate business line at home or a dedicated cell phone to do business; makes business calls in a quiet environment; email has its own domain and a professional sounding name; and is Always On Time! Know your opportunity. Know the plan, especially the compensation.
- Wise Time Management. A-Listers use time wisely. Don’t waste your time or let undisciplined people waste your time. If an appointment or meeting is 9:00 AM, so it is. Then, 9:02 AM is unacceptable. Plan your time wisely and stick to your guns. Same thing for phone calls: return them in the time frame as promised.
