I want to be able to make a professional looking video.  Is there a free or low cost software to do this with.  The main thing is that I would like to have my website at the bottom.

I will appreciate any suggestions,

Michael Watt

Video software

Hi Michael,

There are several options for you depending on your needs. For instance, if you are looking to do a "screencast" by capturing what you do on your computer, you can use Camtasia (about $300) for PC, Jing (free) for PC/Mac or ScreenFlow (about $100) for Mac.

Cam and SF are high quality programs with plenty of editing features. Jing is more of a quick capture program with free online hosting and quick loads (but lower quality).

If you are looking specifically for video editors, then Windows Movie Maker and iMovie are free to Windows and iLife users respectively. Both of these programs offer an impressive suite of editing options and are free downloads if you have Windows or iLife.

Quick Time Pro (about $30) also has several editing options and wide compatibility across different platforms.

If you want to shell out a little cash, I have heard Final Cut Studio is very good, but expensive (around $1,000 +).

I think for basic publishing, you can't go wrong with the aforementioned native editors. For screencasts, ScreenFlow is WELL worth the $100 if you are on a Mac, and Jing will get the job done if you don't need it to be high quality.

Hope this helps.
