I am guessing you have all heard the saying that "its not what you know, but who you know."

In some ways this is true, in others it is not.  Often it is used an excuse for what we haven't achieved - because we didn't know "the right people."

There is certainly a lot that knowledge will achieve for you, and you should never stop learning.  The more you know the more valuable you are to others. Then the "who" will come looking for you.

However, there is a lot that can be done by knowing the right contacts too. So with that long winded introduction out of the way, I will get to the point of this post.

If we are going to make the most out of this group of like minded individuals from South of the Equator, then we need to combine resources and look to help each other.  So please take the time to introduce yourself and share your talents and if you have any needs don't hesitate to post them too - we may have someone with the answers you seek.

For example - I belong to a software club that gives me access to all manner of courses and Ebooks for free or significant discount.  I am happy to help out any member of this group if that is of use to you.

If you are looking for somewhere to holiday - we can probably show you around this part of the world too - come on over :)

What would you like to share?

Who you know matters on many levels

I totally agree that the "who you know" part is extremely important. Not just because you can learn from them, but more importantly you can get honest feedback.

When you experience life a little you start to realize how easy it is to totally go off the track and NOT realize it. You can waste so much time heading in the wrong direction and sometimes you all you need is someone to give a different perspective to get you back on track. This is where groups like this provide so much value.

I am delighted I came across this forum and this group from the south of the equator and a little to the left.

I am afraid I am a total newbie to MLM but I'm here to learn. My background is in IT specializing in database design.

I am currently writing a report on the topic of MLM in the age of information and would very grateful for some feedback when it is finished. So thank you for your kind offer of assistance.

Is this site slow?

Has anyone else noticed this site is frustratingly slow. I think it may be  a Joomla template with too many plugins running.

I am never quite sure if it

I am never quite sure if it is this site or my connection that is slow. But it is a little frustrating at times for sure.

Currently I am trying to install a TikiWiki site - are they any better?

Not the connection

I am quite sure it's not the connection. There are so many widget running that it doesn't cache properly, if at all. So the site is constantly loading and unloading.

Actually I just checked again and it's not joomla but drupal. Drupal normally is very quick particularly the last version with javascript and css optimization.

Not much experience with TikiWiki I did a site a few years back and was quite impressed. Imagine it has evolved quite significantly since then.

Interesting

I think TikiWiki has out evolved me  lol.

I am still in the cave man age where I would like to take to my computer with a large blunt object - since my vocabulary doesn't seem to persuade it to do what I want done.

Still .. if it was easy everyone would be doing it ;)

Why tikiwi?

Any particular reason why you are using TikiWi?

No

I think it looked good in the write up - or I flipped a coin - can't remember.

Which is the easiest to navigate?

Swapped to joomla

We used to use drupal extensively but since the release of Joomla 1.5 (which is very optimized now, with lots of inbuilt components) we are recommending and using Joomla.

But it all depends the goal of your website. If it is community then you can't go past Joomla. If it is a blog then Wordpress or Typepad, both are excellent.
