We all know about Youtube, Facebook, and the like as a means for networking ourselves. Article marketing in itself is wonderful and effective. But there are some ways of marketing yourself that aren't quite as apparent. It's time to branch out. Some of this may seem a bit elementary to the seasoned advertiser. But for the newbies out there I hope some of this helps you kick start your marketing campaign. These tips are in no way numbered according to any specific criteria. One is just as effective as the other if utilized correctly. I have well over 100 tips but time is precious so here are just a few.

1) Yahoo Answers.

You can go through and answer questions people ask at answers.yahoo.com. You'll be surprised at the many questions are left unanswered in many categories. You can become an "expert" within many fields by answering questions, and having relevant links point back to your site. It's a quick way to build back links and actually have targeted users viewing your site.

Never spam. It's important to be friendly and noninvasive with your answers, and to provide good relevant information. Your goal is to have the user to trust you.To get started simply browse the categories or you can search for questions. For example you can do a search for "making money" and it will produce questions people have asked about "making money". Again, you want to keep in mind that you are answering questions, not promoting anything directly. Otherwise someone will flag your answer as spam and you will have wasted your time. Unless of course you really are interested in helping people by answering their questions. :-) Then there was no time wasted with your efforts.

2) Social Networking Sites, etc.

Create a profile at http://vur.me/s/Your-Night/ or http://sharepeoplestring.info and start marketing to the users.

Some quick tips are:

a. Never spam
b. Join as many relevant groups as possible and participate within the groups. Or start your own group and invite all your friends. Be sure to add a picture to the group. It might just be my own personal taste, but if I get an invite from a group where they didn't take the time to upload a group photo, I reject. It also makes your group stand out in the search results.
c. Post interesting bulletins that provide useful information
d. Send friend requests to users within the groups you've joined.
e. Use graphics in your posts to catch the attention of the reader.
f. Use catchy titles, anything boring will be ignored.
g. For non-targeted friends, you can look into friend trains such as friendstorm.net

3) Social bookmarking sites.

Submit to each of these sites. It's best to submit a relevant news story, and not to "spam" with just the front page of your site. Firefox has a great plug in at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/5000 that will conveniently place all of your social bookmarking icons in the toolbar. (Firefox has not been very stable as of a late upgrade. I have abandoned using Firefox for the time being. I find Google Chrome to be the most stable for my super user needs!)

4.) Squidoo.com

Create a lense at squidoo.com, this is one of the latest fads. Even the mere mention of MLM in your "lens"-which is Squidoo's brand of "blog"- Get it? Squid...Lens? - will set off the spam filters and not allow you to publish. They are not very fond of network marketers. That's my opinion, of course. One might call this hypercritical on their part seeing how every lens on there, whether it provides useful information or not, is selling something to the reader. If you are "selling" an opportunity, I would save it for somewhere else. They will call it SPAM! Yes, in capital letters too. I've seen entire "lenses" devoted to berating net workers and their businesses. So if you have a product to promote, or just have relevant information to share, then by all means give Squidoo a shot. You might want to stick to subjects that are non-controversial like how to bake a pumpkin pie or how to effectively strip the skin off a rhubarb. :-)

5.) Cloaking

If you haven't heard of Colin Klinkert & Frank Bauer's new site already, what they offer is pretty much a no brainer and I got a hold of it right away.

8.) Traffic Exchanges

What is a traffic exchange you ask? You're in for a real treat! Welcome to the wonderful world of hit exchange advertising. A traffic exchange is a great way for small business owners, opportunity seekers and website owners to get top quality traffic to their websites. It's a very simple concept, you will visit other members' websites and they will visit yours. The more sites you visit, the more website traffic you will receive! And best of all it's 100% free and lots of fun.

Most Traffic Exchanges have two things in common...validation..and the up sell...after registering you must verify your email before you can log in initially....When you do sign in, they will attempt to up sell you to a paid package on the front page as you first enter the site. Most of them accept Alertpay and Paypal. I usually do not bite at first because they are always coming up with special deals later on, and I like to know whether I enjoy spending time on the site before I invest any money in getting hits from it. I do however, have several monthly paid packages through the sites listed below because I have found them to be quite effective, and CHEAP when you consider how much you are getting for so little. Some as cheap as $14.95 for a 3 month membership which includes a few thousand or a few hundred "hits" or credits each month and 100's of text and banner ads, without ever having to surf a single site. You can also add multiple sites, and multiple different text and banner ads, depending on the exchange as they all have their own rules and stipulations depending on your membership level. They also have games, and prizes, and give you all the tools you need to not only promote your site or sites, but to promote the exchange itself and earn credits...and to build yourself a downline through personal referrals. 9.) Sitemaps

Always have a site map for all your sites, and ensure the site map is submitted to
Google. You can create a free site map using the following site.

Also, scrub the web has a nice package deal http://www.scrubtheweb.com that will teach you step by step how to optimize your website and will allow you to submit to the most relevant 40 search engines.

Just remember that "doorway" pages, while easier than concocting your own site, are not search engine friendly. They will rarely if ever get listed to a directory, search engine, etc. Search engines are a business. And it's their business to give the most relevant material for a persons search term. Not to put your flimsy doorway page in front of someone just so you can get a commission. Sucks, I know. :-)

That is just a fraction of what's out there. You just have to find what works for YOU. They all offer website advertisement, banner advertisement, text advertisement, splash pages...it's a whole world unto itself and it's downright fun!
