In Network Marketing there are two ways to be successful, sell to individuals your products or services, and recruit to build a team of distributors who are all selling and recruiting with you.

While selling products or services can help you pay the bills and get out of debt, building a team and leading them to success is going to help you realize all those big dreams that you have written down.

I want to help you take the mystery out of team building, to give you some “Laws” that you can count on.

Once you learn these laws, no matter who you are, what your background is, or what circumstances you face, you can take always count on the “Laws” to work for you. That’s the great thing about a law, you can depend on it.

Learn and apply these and watch you teamwork capacity and your business success increase! The sooner you become a team player, the sooner you will be able to achieve your dreams.

The Law of Significance

I have always loved reading success stories about someone who achieved something great.
Bill Gates, Michael Jordan, Thomas Edison, Mother Teresa…you get the picture.

You probably admire these people, too. These bold individuals who took on the world, despite the odds or opposition. They never gave up and reached amazing success that we all admire.

In John C. Maxwell’s book “The 17 Indisputable Laws of Teamwork”, he point’s out that “as much as we admire solo achievement, the truth is that no lone individual has done anything of value.”

This is the first law. “The Law of Significance”. This law states that one is too small a number to achieve greatness.
So, why do we try and stand alone in our business?

John Maxwell believes there are a number of reasons:

  1. Ego – Few people like to admit that they can’t do everything. Philanthropist Andrew Carnegie stated, “It marks a big step in your development when you come to realize that other people can help you do a better job than you could do alone.” To do something big, let go of your ego, and get ready to be a part of a team.
  2.

  3. Insecurity – Some individuals fail to promote teamwork because they feel threatened by other people. These people tend to surround themselves with weak people. Only secure leaders give power to others.
  4.

  5. Temperament – If you aren’t outgoing, you may not think in terms of team building. However, if you do everything alone and never try and build a team, you create huge barriers to your own potential. If you want to do something big in your life or business, you must link up with others. Some great leaders started out shy. Don’t let that stop you.

The Law of the Big Picture

A team leader who is part of a winning team have players who put the good of the team ahead of themselves. It’s important to play with your particular strength, (for example, choosing a marketing plan that fits you), but always be willing to do what it takes to take care of the team.

Good team leaders continually keep the vision of the big picture before themselves and their people. That’s the “Law of the Big Picture”.

So, how do you give your team the big picture? How can you shift your team from independent people to team players who abide by the this law?

You must have vision first. You need to have a goal, because without it you cannot have a real team. As a leader, you have the role of capturing and communicating vision. If you don’t have a clear vision then your team won’t either! You must see it first and then help others to see it.

Paint a big picture for your team. Without it they will not find the desire to achieve the goal. Sharing the big picture will also allow everyone to see just how far they really are from achieving it. Through a team you can find support through the often long, bumpy road to success.

After your vision is set, give your team the needed resources to help reach the goal. Maxwell reminds us, “The better resourced the team is, the fewer distractions the players will have as they try and achieve their goal”.

As a member of your team do you feel supported by the latest training, technology, and resources to build your business? And as a team leader are you and your company supporting your team with the necessary resources for success?

I love being a part of my business team. It’s a team that provides true servant leadership. Always painting that big picture and continually striving for better resources that moves all of us towards our goal. Giving up personal agendas for the good of the team. That’s the only time a team can move up to a higher level.

I can think of some awesome women in Network Marketing who have achieved success and greatness. Janie Jones, Donna Johnson, and Jackie Ulmer, to name just a few. All these ladies have one thing in common, they are all team players with integrity.

President Abraham Lincoln once remarked, “Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power.”

The Law of Dividends

Throughout the chapters of “The 17 Indisputable Laws of Teamwork”, you read about people who have dedicated themselves to investing in the people on their teams.

Those investments pay all kinds of rich dividends. The time, money, and effort required to develop team members don’t change the team overnight, but developing them always pays off. Maxwell reminds us, “Investing in the team compounds over time.”.

So how do you invest in your team?

Maxwell gives us 10 ways to get started:
