Google Friend Connect (Beta) is now open to all Internet users.

Here's a step-by-step video that shows you how to easily add Google Friend Connect to your Wordpress blog with ZERO programming involved. Very simple.  If you already have a working Wordpress blog and a valid Google user account (both FREE by the way), you can do this in about 10 minutes.

Some of our friends here on BetterNetworker have already taken a stab at it and added this new social networking gadget to our sites/blogs. Remember to join my blog and invite me to yours once you're done (mine is at http://www.KnowledgeIP.com).

If you are not quite sure what Google Friend Connect is, I think the easiest way to explain it is that it's a way to turn a blog/website into a node in a social netowork.  This concept basically a social networking community in reverse order of sites like Facebook or BetterNetworker. 

Facebook or BetterNetworker requires users like you and I to set up an account before we start filling the site with content.  Friend Connect allows you and I to take content we've already created on our blogs and websites and make a "social network" out of all these blogs/websites.  The result... A GIGANTIC social network that spans across millions if not 100's of millions of sites and blogs!

Thanks for putting up the video Jerry. I don't use Wordpress but the process was just the same for me. And I managed to do this first time despite being a technophobe so I hope none of our 'newbies' will be scared of trying this.

You can all check out the orginal thread to see which other members have added this gadget to their sites and then go join up and invite the other members to join yours.

Thanks for the comment and reminder. Should I remove this from the Newbie group? I made it as clear as I possibly could... But I did not include instructions on how to create a blog.

No need to remove it from the group Jerry. Our members come in all shapes and sizes! Some will already have their own blogs. Obviously, for those who don't this isn't applicable, but I would hate for anyone who does, to miss out on the video.

Of course, if you felt so inclined as to put up a video on how to create a blog? Hey, who am I to stop you? LOL We already have an article on the essential plugins, but don't think we have anything on actually starting up a blog from scratch.

I'm willing to stand corrected by the members, but I think this would be a terrific addition. As a Wordpress phobic, I'd surely appreciate it. :)

They just released a new edition dashboard that really makes it easy!

For Those who have Blogger

You can skip having to copy and paste the two files.

Blogger already has the "two files" in the appropriate place.

After you create the members gadget you copy and paste the HTML into a new HTML/Java Script gadget and Voila!

It is acually two files easier than Word Press ;-)

This is so frustrating. Everywhere I look no one explains quite how to upload these 2 files to my wordpress blog....

You would be a savior if you could message/call or get in touch with me and PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE explain how to get those two damn files uploaded and where?

You need to use a FTP utility to upload the files to your web server.  If FTP sounds foreign to you, contact your web host or a webmaster.
