My Personal Development Included a Circus Act

Nothing stays static. You (and your business) are either growing or decaying.

When I first joined my wife in our networking company in 2003 our business growth was explosive. Fueled by our passion for the products and a desire to help others, within 13 months our downline exceeded 4,500. Our income soon exceeded the six-figure income I had earned in my last J.O.B. Nobody told us that we were in Network Marketing. Neither our upline nor our Company mentioned anything about prospecting, duplication, follow-up (ever heard "the fortune is in the follow-up"?) or any other networking skills.

By 2005 our business growth plateaued and began to decline. The situation led to a frantic search for information on network marketing. So began our process of learning and personal development, a journey that benefited both us and our team.

In 2004 I found myself climbing to the top of a 40' redwood tree in a forest outside San Francisco as part of a personal development program exercise designed to help let go of fears and build confidence in our ability to achieve virtually anything. Once on top of the tree, I stood on top of a 12" diameter plywood disk bolted to the top of the tree with a single bolt, turned and jumped for a trapeeze suspended amongst the treetop greenery.

Our journey of development and personal growth continues. I now realize that being in Network Marketing has provided the opportunity not just for income and freedom but also for personal growth and development. In my opinion this is one of the most valuable benefits of MLM. What do you think?
