About Me
Hello, I'm Dave Simpson. The first time I was exposed to this industry I was 19 years old and I bought a Siberian Husky from my soon to be sponsor. I had been through 2 different "companies" in the last 6 months at that point, offering "Work From Home" stuff.... So, not knowing a darn thing about what was out there in the world, I through away money TWICE. The first time stuffing envelopes. And since I didn't learn my lesson that time, I did the same with assembling kitty kat refigerator magnets. By this time, I thought to myself "I'm going to have to flip burgers to put myself through college".
After I bought my puppy, my future sponsor exposed me to networking. I had seen the little circle drawings before and I had also seen the jokes and cheap shots on comic television where they make fun of people who stood up and drew out the little circle smiley faces. I wasn't necessarily a HUGE skeptic, but I was uncomfortable. I had my sponsor-to-be call my mother because I knew my mom was looking for something too. They hit it off really well and my mom had been around the block before so she has seen this stuff, but for the first time, someone made her feel like it made sense AND showed her a team setting where she wouldn't be alone in her business. Within a few short weeks, just before my 20 birthday, I started my first home business! I was a business owner...... so what did that mean?
Cut to 4 years later... I finished my degree in Graphic Design... I got my bachelors in 3 years.. I now have a couple years experience in my career field... but my heart was still in my home business and the freedom that was DANGLING in front of me if I could just make it take off... I had spent over $5,000 on home business training (Seminars, product, online courses, books, dvd's, etc.. I averaged about $150-$100 a month on training and "how to" material, nothing clicked).... My biggest month in those 4 years was about $300.... total earnings in 4 years.. about $1,500..
Can you better define failing miserably???
But I kept truckin.... The only thing I REALLY got right was the right attitude..."My business only failes when I quit, right now I'm just building and learning" In all honesty, so what if it took me another 5 years to get it right (it didn't).. what if it did? so what! in 5 more years I would be set for life!! nobody can rob me of my knowledge now and nobody can stop me from sharing it with my team and business partners...
Got my mindset on the right track, sharpened up my ACTUAL skills (not my theoretical skills that I learned I never really even put to use), and in March of 2009 I started from scratch and I drew that line in the sand. I said, "NOW, my life won't be the same, and it starts NOW"
I went from an overtime job with a secondary job waiting tables on the weekend to now, no secondary job and only 2 short days a week at my other job (If I decide I feel like going it). They basically call me to bail them out every week a couple times. I LOVE my business and I LOVE the time I have with my family and myself!
Speaking of family, I have a CRAZY beautiful wife....yes she is crazy because she puts up with me, but what I meant was that she is so beautiful it's crazy :) We are licensed by the state to parent kids who have been taken from their homes.. Yes there is a word for this type of parent, but in our home, it's a swear word. I'm sure you know what it is. We don't feel the need to label us or the kids any more than they already are, nor do we feel the need to distiguish them as different than they probably feel already. We have one awesome kid with us now, Cathan. He is 7 and he is a stinking rockstar! We hope for his sake everything works for HIS best interest, but we are also hoping that his best interest means we get to keep him forever :) He is my boy now, I just want to make it official so nothing can happen where he can be taken from me. We also love to travel and legally, cannot take him out of the state. I want to show him around the world and give him experiences and cultural insights that would have been impossible if he would have stayed where he came from.
Speaking of travel, that is our other passion. We have taken just a handful of trips, and at the ages of 25 and 26 my wife and I have seen Ireland, Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Belize and many beautiful states right here at home. We have much more we want to see, but most importantly, many more people whom we want to meet. When we travel, we stay away from the finer things. In our 4 month trip to Central America, we only spent about a week in a tourist town with beaches and hot spots. The rest of the time was spent on cots or small beds in hostels or on the furniture at families homes that we stayed with. The beauty of the Earth and it's scenery is second compared to the beauty of people when you get face to face with them and see the world through their eyes.
Where should we go next? We aren't sure at this point, we are thinking about it.......
That is really the summary of my life and I hope that, if you finished this bio, I didn't bore you :)
Good luck to you and NEVER LOOK BACK!! the payoff is much greater for those who can stick out their dreams.
Stay strong.
