Dawn Orbeck

Hi, I'm Dawn. I had been reading and enjoying everyone's biographies when it occured to me that I hadn't written one for myself!  So here I am, thinking about how to describe myself and my life.

My childhood was not unlike that of most people, so I will skip that part.  I will say that I have lived in Michigan my entire life and I really don't like it.  I typically use a stronger word to describe how I feel about Michigan but I am trying to give it the benefit of the doubt.  I do believe that if I had the opportunity to live somewhere else (in the USA), I would see that Michigan is not so bad.  I hope to live out my golden years in a warmer climate (or at least be able to 'winter' some place sunny.)

My Home Based Business

I began my adult career as a Chemical Engineer working at the Dow Chemical Company.  If I had any regrets (and I don't because I believe all things happen for a reason), one would be that I followed rather poor advice about entering the field of engineering.  I really didn't know any better.  I didn't know what it was but I was 'advised' that I should go that route because I was strong in math and science and I was a woman (of which there were few when I was attending engineering college).  Later in my career I took a career interest-type test and learned that engineering was on the opposite end of my 'interest' spectrum.  It all made sense now.

I was fortunate to meet my husband at Dow so I have no regrets about that part of my life.  I've been married for 20+ years and have two lovely children (teenagers!)  I 'resigned' from Dow when my second child was born.  I have never been particularly 'domestic' so it wasn't long before I began looking for some sort of 'work' from home.  To make a long story short, I discovered eBay and like millions of other people, began selling everything from Beanie Babies and Pokemon Cards to clothing and XBoxes.  My 'internet' business was steady and strong for several years.

I discovered Network Marketing in 2005 when some minor health issues led me to discover a 'healthy juice'.  I was excited and passionate about the business - a feeling I never had as an engineer.  I ended up following the wrong person into another company after just a few short weeks in my first business.  After a couple more jumps (we all do this, right?), I found my way to my current (and hopefully, forever) company.  

I can't say enough about the change I've seen in myself since joining SendOutCards.  Not that I was a horrible person before, but I am a better person now.  A few years ago when I was running my internet business, I became very withdrawn and introverted.  I didn't need 'relationships' because all of my transactions were with strangers and over very quickly.  The great thing about Network Marketing is it is a 'relationship' business.  Doesn't matter what company you are with.  But SendOutCards has not only brought me many, many new friends in form of fellow distributors, customers and teammates, it has given me a means by which to nurture those relationships and help others to do the same.

My Family

I love network marketing because of the flexibility it gives me with my family.  I am grateful to be available for my kids when they need me.  It doesn't happen so much anymore, but I loved being here to bring my kids their lunch when they had left it home.  I love being able to pick my kids up from school when they are sick and to be home to comfort them.  My kids bring me much joy.  They are both musicians and I can't tell you how much I enjoy listening to them play at home.  They keep me busy driving them around to all their rehearsals, lessons and concerts, but it's very fulfilling for me - and I will be very sad when they head off to college in a few years.
