About Me

Monique and Derek Alvarez

Derek and Monique Alvarez specialize in helping people achieve success in their business ventures by providing the vision, training, support and tools necessary to accomplish their goals.

What does DriveTheLine Mean?

In Network Marketing lingo, “driving the line” is what happens when a distributor is doing so well that they force their upline to “catch up” to them, so they will be able to get paid on all the success that their downline is having.

This is what DriveTheLine.com is all about:

Teaching people to be successful in Network Marketing so that they can teach other people in the business to do the same.

More About Monique and Derek:

We are Monique and Derek Alvarez and we’ve been married for over two years now.

After we got married we both got some steady jobs – Monique became a General Manager at a couple of well-known franchises and Derek got a job as a Landscape Designer.

Derek was Employee of the Month in July 2008

These were good jobs for most people, but not for us.

We have had a burning desire to run our own business from the beginning and we didn’t like to be told what we were going to be paid before someone even knew who we were or what we were capable of.

Monique’s parents have been business owners for their entire lives and Derek didn’t want to live paycheck to paycheck like his parents always have — it’s a hard way to go through life.

After working regular jobs and getting nowhere, we soon realized that true wealth can never be created by working for someone else.

So we even looked into buying a franchise at some point – only to find out that a franchise can cost at least a million bucks!

We didn’t have the capital for that. So we kept searching.

Then a friend told us about a brand-new company and how all we basically had to do was sign up and we’ll be rich!

It was as if a leprechaun had just slid down a rainbow and showed us the pot of gold!

(Sound familiar?)

Well, Monique had been involved in Network Marketing in some form or another (mostly as a customer) for about 4 years — so she was familiar with the set-up.

So we signed up with a great deal of excitement and enthusiasm.

Enthusiasm that was only matched by our lack of knowledge about the Network Marketing industry and what it takes to succeed in the business.

We did the best with what we knew:

  • We told our friends and family about our opportunity – we even signed up a few of them.
  • We went to networking events and sold some product.
  • We even went out cold-calling people and businesses.

Our biggest problem was we couldn’t get in front of enough people to make the paycheck we needed.

A few months later, the company went through major changes — one of which was the pay structure.

To our disappointment, we found out we were going to make even less than we did before!

So we quit and jumped ship to another opportunity, which is the one we’re with now.

Truthfully, it really didn’t make a difference what company we were with  — because we didn’t know what we were doing.

Don’t get me wrong — we are glad to be with the company we are with now because we like the pay plan, leadership and products better.

But the truth is that you can succeed or fail with any company you are with — depending on your level of knowledge, belief, and ACTION.

This was almost us!

Although we started out a lot better with this company (we even quit our jobs to do it full-time), we still didn’t have a marketing plan.

And that caught up to us when we ran out of warm market to talk to.

So we were back to square one.

What can we do? What can we do?

Hmmm…maybe we should start going door to door — like a vacuum salesman?

Then a friend told us about Mike Dillard’s Magnetic Sponsoring Course, which is definitely on our list of recommended reading.

What we found in those pages was like a breath of fresh air.

Finally, a philosophy and a SYSTEM we could use to run our business with!

Let me just make this clear – everybody who starts out in Network Marketing isn’t any good.

It takes a lot of LEARNING and APPLYING that learning to make it in this business.

It can feel like a big, long learning curve.

We were no exception to this rule.

But we actually weren’t having any trouble signing people up in our business.

We were having trouble FINDING more people to talk to.

Now we have a way to do this!

(By the way, if you are having trouble signing people up, we recommend you check out Mark Weiser and Mike Dilard’s Blackbelt Recruiting.)

Now if you’ve ever been to your company training, you’ve heard the saying, “if we can do it, anyone can do it.”

It’s just as true for us.

While we are extremely driven and determined, we come with our own issues.

Derek:

Derek relaxing in Hawaii

I used to struggle with self-confidence and social interaction.

Only now am I getting to the point where I don’t care what people think of me.

I used to be pretty shy and never enjoyed being in crowds or talking in front of a group of people. Networking in a room full of suit wearing professionals was never my favorite activity, if you know what I mean ;)

But I have done a lot of personal development, which has done wonders for me.

Seminars, books, audios — I continue to work on myself, and it has paid off.

Art has always been my passion and I see Network Marketing as my opportunity to make enough residual income to be able to do it on a full-time basis without worrying about paying the bills or going into debt.

I like creating things and I always have.

There is nothing like the satisfaction of completing a work of art and having something tangible to be proud of.

My dad is the same way. He works in construction and I have always noticed how satisfied he is with his handiwork at the end of the day.

But I realize that it is a hard way to go through life — to always be reliant on your own production to pay the bills.

I want to be like  Robert Kiyosaki’s “Rich Dad” and have my money work for me.

As opposed to his “Poor Dad,” who worked for his money.

Every day, I can feel the excitement, the creative energy, the passion surging through me as I picture myself creating art on a full-time basis – with out worrying how to pay the bills.

And every day I get a step closer to my dream.

I look forward to having friends over to my studio, where we will discuss art and drink a glass of wine with Bob Marley or Willie Nelson playing in the background.

Monique:

My biggest struggle has always been an unwillingness to conform to something I don’t believe in.

Monique in Tirana, Albania with the orphans she cared for

Going to a job everyday that I have no passion for.

Going through the week knowing that this is not the life I want.

Completely understanding that I’m the oddball and that’s not going to change.

I made the totally crazy decision at age 22 to move to Tirana, Albania to volunteer at an orphanage.

I was happy as can be and you know why? — I had always wanted to do that!

A few years and 16 countries later, I made the decision to return to the States.

I felt this pressure to be like my peers.

Going to college, getting a good job, buying a house and having two kids and a dog may be the American dream, but it’s not my dream.

Shouldn’t the American dream be doing what you were born to do?

I know what I was born to do.

Everyone knows — some have just buried it, tuned it out, or denied it.

If you know in your heart that you weren’t made for the “9 to 5.”  If you know you must do what you were born to do, all you have to do is find a way to finance it.

That’s exactly what we are doing.

We are not going to lie to you and tell you that you can make millions of dollars just 2 weeks after you start using the internet to market your opportunity.

But we have found an automated way to generate leads to us, 24/7, and we have found a way to follow-up with those leads that is automated and effective.

We can even automate our training and we continue to market our opportunity without breaking the budget.

In fact, we have even found a way to make a little money while prospecting!

So now I’m sure you’re wondering, “OK, so how do you do those things and could you please tell me?”

And the answer is we’d be glad to!

Be sure to contact us if you have any questions or ever need anything and we’ll do our best to get back to you as soon as possible.

Our Special Purpose:

Our journey started with us searching for a way to make a living for ourselves, to “create our own economy,” and to achieve financial freedom for our little family.

Derek and Monique Alvarez in Maui

But it has become so much more than that.

We would like to help as many people achieve their dreams as we can!

That’s why we work so hard to create and promote useful info products.

This is our why.

You see, we are NOT meant to work meaningless jobs for corporations who only see us as numbers.

We are NOT meant to struggle and live paycheck to paycheck.

We are NOT meant to spend so much time away from our families.

However, we ARE meant to live our true purpose and be able to make a difference in the world.

We ARE meant to be able to live in a state of abundance and love our fellow man.

We ARE meant to be able to share our lives with our loved ones and be there for all the important moments.

This is what we are working for.

This is what we want for you.

All it takes is some business skills and some work to get things going.

We’re here to teach you the skills, the rest is up to you.

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine as children do. It’s not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own lights shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
