Hi, Hulman Sinaga here. I am a teacher, aspiring to become a business entrepreneur, born before WWII, in Sarawak. Following training, I taught in primary schools, then later, following completion of my studies at Avondale College, Australia, I had the exciting privilege of teaching upper secondary school students at Sunny Hill School, Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia, 1962 - 1968. While there it became my preoccupation interacting with students in the areas of Science, Mathematics and English. Most times students are really fun to be with.
At the end of 1968 I was offered a full Fulbright-Hayes scholarship by MACEE (Malaysian-American Commision for Educational Exchange) to pursue postgrad studies in the State of Michigan, USA, culminating in the conferment of the M. Ed and then the Ph.D, by June 1973. Three Malaysian universities, The University of Malaya, the National University of Malaysia, and the Science University of Malaysia, then invited me to join their respective Faculties of Education. I chose the latter, and have enjoyed Penang since July 1973.
For those who've not visited Penang, all I can say is that a visit here will leave long lasting memories of your time spent here. This island has been dubbed "The Pearl of the Orient". So take out your tourist guide book and plan to make Penang your next vacation destination. Never know, I might meet some of you when you come to visit our island. You may be so charmed by Penang and Penangites, you may wish to make it your second home, as quite a few have done.
