Lisa Latimer

Hi, my name is Lisa Latimer. I am blessed with a wonderful husband Stephen, and a 7 year old son. Their success and happiness in life is just as important as my own.

I appreciate honest, down to earth people. I do not believe in "Fake it, 'Til you Make It." I like to be real. I like my job. I work with people who have acquired brain injuries. I have been working with these members for the past 9 years. They need my support and continue to benefit from my support. I am a go-giver. Despite what is happening around me, I am there for the members. I relate to them on a one to one basis, having respect for who they are. I don't get to dress up into a three piece suit, and wear fancy jewellery. The kind of work I do sometimes isn't very pretty.  Due to physical issues like short-term memory loss, mental health problems, and bureucratic entanglements, these people do not own their lives. They are living with limited freedoms. I feel blessed because I can own my life!   If life were a pie, I would say I am more than half way to owning that pie..The members I work with are going to miss me when I leave there.

Despite all the good I feel I am offering the members in my part-time job, I need to strive for yet higher goals, to continually raise the bar on myself and help others to do the same. I want to make more money so that I can offer more choices in terms of activities for my son, travel more, and to afford more of life's little luxuries. More money can also buy more time. I cannot depend on my bosses, or the government to take care of my financial future. I have 22 more years until retirement. With todays' changing economy and other global forces, there is another way to tip the scales more in my favour.
