I thank those people who said I wouldn't and couldn't.
Pregnant as 16, mum told me I wouldn’t finish school!
As Restaurant Manager I took a lot of stress home. When I left I was told “You won’t find a better job and you won’t get paid more.”
I started a reception job in the building industry. Juggling work, study and family was hard. I went to bed at 3am a lot just to get things done. It paid off; I was promoted and given flexibility to work from home. Years later I realized there were no more rungs!
Finally I was offered a role in a new business venture, BUT...
4 days before starting the director called me. “Due to the unstable economic climate the new venture is no longer a viable option” “Your replacement isn’t doing the job; I need you to come back to that role” “Hayley, you need to work in the office more.” Devastated, I almost choked on my tears!
6 months later I fired my boss!
On my last day he said “I think you’re making a mistake, you’re given up a good salary, car, phone, secure job, parking, flexibility (hmm?).
I sacrificed family time and happiness! I was let down by broken promises and paid less than I was really worth. I have no regrets or hard feelings but I have learned from my experiences.
Like Donald Trump said “I try to learn from the past, but I plan for the future by focusing exclusively on the present. That's where the fun is."
