After managing a full service historic hotel for 5 years, I was burnt out with the 24/7 world of hospitality. I loved the interaction with people from all walks of life that this job afforded me - I've met celebrities, business icons, presidents (2) and the like. BUT, it wasn't worth the time spent away from my family, or the exhaustion I felt when I WAS able to be with them.
My husband and I have always loved the beach, and decided it was time to make a change - so we put a For Sale sign in the front yard, and before we knew it, we had moved toward the Gulf Coast, where I am currently working as a Pricing Manager for a furniture manufacturer.
The hours are much better, but all things being equal in corporate America, the pay is less.

I've always taught my sons that they could be whatever they wanted to be, and to make sure they choose a career that not only provides well financially, but that they can enjoy and be happy with.
My father made a good living, but hated his job, for as long as I can remember until the day he retired. I didn't want that for my boys.

I've finally realized I don't want it for me, either. Life is too short to spend it not loving what you do, and I'm not going to waste another minute.
