Janet Hartley

My Name is Janet Hartley and I was born in Belfast N.Ireland. I have 2 sisters, one older and one younger, so you can guess, being the middle one I thought that I was always left out.We lived in Belfast until I was 7 years old and then we moved to a small town called Dromore. My parents both had to work as times were tough and my grandmother looked after us. We lived, what was called "in the country" and every day we had to walk 3 miles to school and back again. Our clothes were always bought two sizes too big, and we were told that "we would grow into them".Every Sunday we had to go to , wait for it, morning sunday school, then church, afternoon sunday school and then evening church. We never questioned it as it seemed to be the norm.

I passed my eleven plus and went to Banbridge Acadamy. We were suppose to be very privileged to go to the Acadamy, but to be truthful I never felt that way. Everyone else seemed to be able to go on school trips and holidays, but we never went as our parents could not afford it. I can remember then thinking that if ever I had children, mine would go on everything (how short sighted I was or was it just I had started to dream of what type of life I wanted! ) I hated learning different languages, in fact I couldn't understand why I needed to learn them as I was never going to meet anyone from France or Germany and as for Latin! what was the sense.As I am sure you can guess, I was not happy.

At the age of 15 I then went to the local Technical College. Now this was the place for me. Learning practical "stuff" like domestic science, first aid .all the "how to".I knew that I wanted to be a nurse, so I had to study to achieve the "o" levels I needed. I did it, achieved what I needed ,now to apply to hospitals.

In 1971 I started by nurse training in Belfast City Hospital, this was one of the biggest hospitals in Northern Ireland and had a fantastic reputation. I became a S.R.N.(state registered nurse) in 1974 and I knew that I had found my vocation in life, helping others.I will never forget how proud my mother was as being a nurse was a great achievement in our small town. I then decided that I would like to be a midwife.

One of my friends Kate also wanted to do her midwifery training and she had relatives who lived in England. We decided it was time to leave Ireland and "spread our wings" so we applied for training posts and we were accepted in Burnley Lancashire. This was going to be great, near someone we knew but also being independent.We finished our midwifery training in 1973 and Kate decided to return to Ireland, but in the meantime I had met Shane (now my husband).

I progressed up the ladder in my career,got married, had 2 children along the way and I became a senior midwife working on the community as well as in the hospital. We seemed to be happy just plodding along in life, going on holidays, seeing family in Ireland and hopefully giving our children all they needed.

I knew there must be more to life than working shift work, night calls and being tired all the time, so we started looking at another income stream. We really wanted to retire and be able to have the income to enjoy ourselves. We came across Network Marketing and we made more inquiries. We started our own Home Based Business and we have never looked back.

I was able to take early retirement due to the extra income we were making and we are able to "treat " ourselves to the little luxuries in life. We have no financial worries as we know that we how have a residual income.

I really enjoy helping people reach their goals in life, as I found out quite a few years ago, I am " a people person" and my aim in life is to help as many people as possible to know what it is like to "OWN THEIR OWN LIFE" and not have to depend on a boss anymore.
