About Me
Hello my name is Marlon Charles. I was born and raised on the beautiful island of Trinidad and Tobago (Trini to the bone). I created this profile to network with likeminded people who are focused on living a purpose driven life.
Just to give you a little insight into my life, I am a born again Christian, the second of six children in a God fearing family. We were all actively involved in the church; Mom and Dad each respectively was the head of the Women’s and Men’s Ministry (as they are to this day) and I was the church drummer. As a young boy, I was outgoing. I loved helping my parents. My father grew his own produce and I was always by his side. Mom taught me to bake bread and cakes from scratch which helped to pay my way to many church camps. I enjoyed being involved in many activities and learning new skills and had fun playing cricket and football (soccer) with my siblings. Those were the days! I was destined to find my place of greatness and success.
My road to success began when I took my first job after graduating as a machinist. It was my childhood dream to be working for the major oil companies on the island. But, I had a change of heart and moved into the field of technical operations at the local general hospital while studying to be a safety officer. I won’t bore you with the many side businesses. One year while on vacation on the beautiful island of Barbados, I found the love of my life. Four years later we were married and I moved to Barbados to start a new life.
While looking for a job, I spent a lot of time reading and I came across Robert Kiyosaki’s books entitled “Rich Dad Poor Dad” and “Cash Flow Quadrant.” Both transformed my life. I learned that money will not make you rich but your business skills will. I also learned that there are dream killers that will discourage you from pursuing your dreams. These are good points to know when getting started in business.
While I was learning all this, I was introduced to the direct sales industry by a good friend from Trinidad. Just the think of being the first businessman to introduce a particular product to Barbados, SUCCESS!!! Well that’s what I thought. It was only the beginning for me. This business went well for just over a year, but because I was more caught up in shipping and distribution of the product, I lost sight of my marketing skills.
So as I tried to realign my focus, the interest for that particular product dwindled. It is all about determination. Determined to succeed, my quest began for innovative sales strategies. At this time my wife, Kim, seized the opportunity to pursue her Master’s degree in Arts Administration. So we moved to Savannah, Georgia USA where we both increased our knowledge. Kim has now completed her Master’s degree and I have started on my MBA (Massive Bank Account).
I am sure most of you are on the same road striving to succeed, whether it is through the pursuit of higher education or increased business ventures. We all have big dreams just waiting to materialize. Many of us are unsure which road to take or what role we need to play in life. In my search for the answer to success, I was drawn to two books that transformed my life, Rick Warren’s “Purpose Driven Life (What on Earth am I Here for?)” and Myles Munroe’s “Understanding Your Potential.”
‘Knowing God's purpose for your life will reduce your stress, focus your energy, simplify your decisions, give meaning to your life and most importantly, prepare you for eternity.’ (Rick Warren)
That is where I started, by establishing a solid foundation with God and using the business skills, I learned to build wealth.
As I look back, I realize the many mistakes that I made in my business. I was trying to sell my products using flyers, yard signs, post cards, networking groups like Business Network International, Chamber of Commerce and hotel meetings. Sometimes I even walked around the mall with my advertising buttons to get attention. Someone once said on the way to success you develop your story. Well if that was the case then I must have been on the road to success, I definitely now had a story. The story of how obstacles never stopped me, they inspired me. You see, I learned that in this life, experiences help you develop and you must overcome the obstacles to reach success. Success is definitely not acquired overnight.
My true passion is to empower persons who are looking for a way forward, people who are willing to do what it takes to get to the next level in life. So if you are a true entrepreneur, sales person, network marketer or a likeminded individual. Don’t make the same mistakes that I did and take the long road to success. Allow me to share with you the step by step process of how to climb the ladder of success so that you can create a lifestyle you and your family deserve.
