My name is Mary Ann Newton, and I go by "Mary Ann." I am the mother of 2, grandmother of 5, soon to be 6. I was born in Texas, but my parents relocated to the Mojave Desert in Southern California when I was about 2 yrs old. At that time, I was older sister to 1 little brother, and the jury was still out as to whether or not I was going to be okay with him staying around. Little did I know that being a big sister to one little brother was going to become a life long challenge, as we were blessed with 2 more brothers and a baby sister in the years that followed…but, my “first brother” and I developed the bond of “best friends” and still share this special connection, even though I am close to our other siblings, he was first .
Being a "Big Sister" taught me a lot of life lessons which I didn’t realize just how important they were, until many years later. You learn the importance and value of sharing, seeing how far you can stretch a dollar – sharing popcorn or candy at a weekend matinee and then dividing up what was left of the change we’d been given…just some of the things we did to get the most for our dollar, and that was many years ago.
Now, it is all about helping those I meet or care about, giving them a website I learned of, telling them about coupons or special sales, or even services that save time and money, or ways to make extra cash, that I feel is important. Every one has felt the bite of the economy, in one way or another…just stand at the gas pump and you are bound to hear someone’s “story.”
Today, it is all about building relationships and I believe this will only continue to grow more important in the years to come. It is my hope that I will be able to provide some of my inner wisdom, and maybe some of the years of experience I've gained from living in 7 different states and 2 foreign countries, to anyone who needs whatever insight I can offer. I am hoping to network and make some new friends and develop some lasting relationships here.
Somewhere, I recently read these words and felt they were very profound....“The pain of not succeeding is stronger than my fear of failing, and I did something that I have never done before…” What do these words make you feel or think about?
