About Me
Who Is DJ Sobanjo
My name is DJ and I'm a 34 year old father of 2 lovely kids aged 6 and 2 years and married to my beautiful wife Buki.
I live in the beautiful city of London with my family and I am passionate about my job as I work as a leadership and management development specialist which gives me the opportunity to help other people develop the skills and behaviours they need to be succesful in life and in business.
I have a strong passion for personal achievement and helping others be the best person they could be. This led me to become a motivational teacher in 200 and I went across various college campuses and church youth groups teaching young people the principles for living productive and effective lives. In 2001 I wrote my first book '9 Keys To A Lifetime Of Achievements.'
How I Came Into Network Marketing
In February 2001 when my wife was heavily pregnant with our daughter, a friend of mine gave me a book to read titled 'Rich Dad, Poor Dad'. If you have read that book before then you could imagine the impact that book had on us. My wife and I both read the book and agreed that we needed to take action based on what we read. At the time we had only just migrated to England from Nigeria and had lived here less than a year.
We considered various revenue streams but our reality was we didn't have the kind of money that was needed to start and sustain these business and investment options. It was around this time that I stumbled upon network marketing. I'd never heard of it before and straightaway I was excited about the possibilities of creating wealth by helping other people achieve success. It was at this time I decided to look for the right program to join.
My First Network Marketing Experience
My first experience in network marketing was with a company called EurExcel which was the European arm of Excel Communications, which was the big mlm story of the 90's in the States. Financially my first year was a disaster. I spent thoussnds of dollars trying to make my business work and thats when I realised it was much more challenging than I thought.
I had only lived in England for about a year so I really did not have much of a warm market. And while I had a lot of credibility back home, here I was a no-one and I quickly began to realise that people did not join companies, they joined people.
However I had the opportunity to personally meet many people who were making a fortune in the industry which helped build my belief because as I said then if they could do it then so could I.
How I Discovered The Power Of The Internet And Used It To Explode My Business
I used to attend the trainings run by leaders who were earning in excess of $200,000 a month and they would say belly to belly was the only way to build it. Call all your friends, bump into people in the street and show the plan. Well I was very teachable and I did what they suggested. I must say I did begin to enjoy some good success with this but my business was not moving anywhere as quick as I wanted ot to and I was getting burnt out running over the place, especially when I drive long distances to show the plan to people who begin to fall asleep half way through my presentation.
I then began to consider using the onternet to build my business. These 'leaders' in my company said sitting in front of a computer was a waste of time but hey at this point, what did I have to lose. This was early 2003 and I had no guidance, at this point there were no courses on how to build an mlm business online. I had to use common sense and try different things and stuck with what worked.
I had a very simple system, I used google adwords to generate leads, used a business opportunity capture page to catch their details and an autoresponder to follow up. I was targetting people who had read 'Ricch Dad, Poor Dad' and were looking for a business. I subscribed to a program that educated my prospects on the power of mlm and then sent them to my company site to view a presentation and sign up.
Magnetic Sponsoring did not exist so I did not consider targetting networkers. Well this simple system empowered me. I started generating my leads and was able to connect with them as we shared a common interest- Robert Kiyosaki's 'Rich Dad, Poor Dad'.
In my first year, I had only 8 people in my team but by my second year, my team had grown to about 200 spread across 6 countries(all the countries my company was in at the time). Heck, I was making money on Dutch and German transactions and I had never been to these countries or understand the languages. Many of those people I found online went on to be quite successful and we went on to become really great friends.
How I Discovered The Power Of Attracting Experienced Networkers Into My Team
My EurExcel business was really exploding and I was getting a lot of recognition and just begining to reap the benefits of all my hardwork when the unthinkable happened.
IN October 2004 I had just come back from our international convention in Dallas , Texas pumped up and excited, ready to take my business to the next level when I got a phone call from a close friend in the company telling me that Excel had gone bust. I really could not believe it and for a long time was in denial. After a couple of weeks I came to myself and having now got the mlm bug I could not quit the industry so started looking for a new opportunity. I looked at quite a number of different companies and decided to join a UK based network that also offered Telecoms and was internet marketing friendly.
But something interesting happened during this period. I started getting calls from other EurExcel reps who were not in my team but who I had shared trained or mentored on one way or another asking me what I was going to do. I told them I was still looking but would get back to them once I had made up my mind. When I made my decision I sent them an email and thats when I experienced magic. These experienced networkers joined me in this new business and within 4 months we had the fastest growing team in that company, my team grew to about a thousand and we made a truckload of money.
I was really humbled by that experience and until recently while I have had some success with mlm, I had not able to duplicate it.
What I'm Up To Now
Well at the moment, I am working on my second book which should be published by February 2008, this is a book I'm co-authoring with a good friend and awesome public speaker and author of 3 books, Del Olusanya titled '21 Secrets of The Master Communicator'. We've spoken together at a handful of seminars sharing these secrets and the feedback has been so phenomenal we have decided to write a book sharing these secrets with the world. Look out for the book when it's released.
I have 2 network marketing businesses I have built over the last few years which are earning me some fantastic residual income but now I am foccused on teaching networkers how to not only attract networkers to them(which Magnetic Sponsoring does) but to take it to the next level by having experienced networkers join your downline right now and start to build under you immediately(This Magnetic Sponsoring does not do).
I'm putting together a mini e-book where I will be sharing these principles that have worked for me and many others I have trained but have not decided whether to sell it or offer it for free with another product at the backend.
My Passion for Personal Development and How I Make Money from It Also
I'm also passionate about personal development and as a true entrepreneur I have chosen to make money while utilising a tool that helps me learn from the best trainers in personal development. You can visit here and try this same product for only $2 while offers last(No squeeze page, just straight to the information). I will make money as you utilise it but if you see the benefits you can make money also by spreading the word. It will act as a good supplement to your primary mlm income like it has done for me.
Thanks for reading my profile.
To your Success,
DJ Sobanjo
