Otoabasi Umonting

Hello there,
my name’s Otoabasi Umonting (Also called Gideon by close friends and family). I’m currently based in London – UK. I was born in Merseyside – Liverpool in the UK, but I was raised in Nigeria, where my parents originate from.

I always prefer to tell people that I’m Nigerian than British, maybe because of the fact that I was raised there. I had an adventurous childhood, and growing up was filled with a lot of trials. These trials coupled with my upbringing have in a way chiselled me into who I am today. I’ll tell you a bit about it…
I am a Christian, and a firm believer in the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
I used to be the type that never really took life seriously; I felt things would fall in place, the way I wanted without my lifting a finger. The reality of life has a way of hitting us when we least expect it, and I felt the blow when I was in my my early twenties. I was completely dependent on my parents whenever I needed money, and the thought of making money on my own did not apply to me. Of course my parents were not going to cater for me forever, so the money supply dwindled, and I found myself barely scraping out a living (At University in Nigeria). The funny part was that I had ideas, talents that I could use to make some money, no matter how little, but I chose not to. When things got worse, I made up my mind to get my act together.

They say – “Desperate times call for desperate measures!” I was desperate and I had to find a way out. I started using my art (Pencil drawing, stenciling and printing on clothes) to make some money; I got fed up struggling in Nigeria, so I left for the UK. Problem solved? Nope, it was just the beginning. I settled with relatives, hunted for jobs and found none for over a year. Then I got one – retail, hmmm! Anyways, I worked hard, moved out to stay on my own, and then network marketing came knocking. I jumped on it like a crazy buzzing bee in a hive, without really finding out what it was all about. I failed and then got up, did my research, then got right back into it with the right mindset.
Below is an outline of other things that make up who I am:

- Books I read: The Bible, Investment/business books, Inspirational books, Journals, and Articles (Paper back or ebook).

- Sports I play and watch: Basketball (play), Soccer (used to play – I support Manchester United – cool huh?), Table Tennis (play/watch), Lawn Tennis (Watch), Volleyball (watch/play a little), and Golf (Watch – hope to play soon).

I live by the grace of God. He’s my greatest source of help.

It’s my passion to help people, and I have this desire to reach out to as many people as I can (That's what drives me). God positions us in a place to help others, and as we progress, it’s important for us to carry others along.

The best way to reach the top is to be someone that always pays attention to the needs of others, and find ways to offer solutions; I’ll be lying if I say I know everything, but the little I know I share. I do my best to listen, that way I can easily identify where the problem is.
