About Me

Greetings from New Hampshire!

My journey to entrepreneurship began three and a half years ago when a dear friend of mine introduced me to a phenomenal anti-aging skin care line.  After three days using these new products my husband said, "What are you doing with your face?  It looks great!"  After 10 days he said, "No, really, is it a new makeup?"  And I told him that I wasn't wearing any make-up!  He was impressed with the results, as was I; my skin had literally never looked or felt better.

After going back to my friend and placing an order for a complete set, she told me about the business opportunity that was available with the company that made these products.  I had never heard of the company before, but after she explained that the business was like Avon, or Tupperware, I said, "Thanks, but no thanks."  However, she left me with some brochures (you know the ones!) and other materials in a well-designed folder.  Over the next week or so I listened to the promotional CD in my car, read the promotional literature, checked out the corporate website and my curiosity was piqued enough for me to agree to attend an opportunity meeting with her.

Well, many of you can probably relate to what happened next; I couldn't sleep that night!  As a 20-year veteran of public school teaching  married to a professor, I counted myself blessed on many accounts; a happy marriage, two beautiful healthy girls, relative job security, a nice house in a great little town, adventurous travel while teaching overseas, etc.  However, what we weren't blessed with, and never would be as educators, was financial security.  While it is true that my husband, older than me by 12 years, had been investing through his university (with matching contributions), for thirty years and had a decent pension on paper (before the current crash!), we basically lived paycheck-to-paycheck after savings, taxes and bill payments came off the top of our paychecks every week.  That night, in that downtown hotel ballroom, I fell for this company's vision of life as a successful entrepreneur, and I fell hard!  It was almost like falling in love, when I think about it.  I went to bed, then woke up at 2 am, unable to get back to sleep.  I went downstairs, reread all the promotional material, made my list of 100 (well, it was only 87, but it was a good start) then dug out a recent offer for a credit card that I'd received in the mail.  I hadn't had my own credit card since I'd gotten married 11 years prior.  I called the credit card company, was quickly approved (the good old days!) and then I jumped in the shower.  I drove to my friend's house, arrived at 6:30 am with coffee and muffins (I knew that she was an early riser) and by 8 am I was signed up as a new consultant.  I was so excited!  My friend had built a team of 10 people in about 6 months, and I figured that I could do the same.

My dear friend was driving the company car within 7 months of starting, and when that happened even my SUPER skeptical husband became hopeful that I could emulate her success.  I worked hard at it for the next two years, always blaming myself for my lack of success, until I started reading more online about the MLM and Network marketing and warm market methods.  I remembering reading, "You are your MLM's best customer," and thinking OMG!!  They're right!  I thought about all the money that I'd spent on products (fabulous though they were) and promotional materials, and realized that my ROI was nonexistent!  I found MS online about a year ago and joined, but never became very active.  In the past year I've been mostly looking at online opportunities, realizing that my particular MLM has such strict rules about online advertising, that I just couldn't make a go of it.  And I just can't pursue building a business using the warm market methods that they're still teaching!

I realized that I needed to educate myself to become a successful online marketer in the same way that I educated myself to be a successful reading teacher for the hardest to teach children!  It had taken me years of continuous training to learn to be successful in that career, and I knew that it had to be the same for my second chosen career.  To that end, I've spent the last year as a student of online marketing, albeit a stealth student since my husband is completely unsupportive, unfortunately.  This will have to change soon, because my inability to get to work done at home when he's there is really impeding my progress!  I have joined numerous organizations that provide training for online and other marketing, and I've learned a lot!  I have been able to take my time in researching online opportunities.   I finally found two that I joined, after much research and many conversations with my upline prior to pulling out my credit card.  I have a great sponsor whose early experience was very similar to mine, and who is now earning a successful living online.  I am slowly, but surely, following in her footsteps!

I look forward to becoming part of this vibrant online community!

Hi Suzanne, I enjoyed reading your bio. I too have been an elementary and middle school public teacher -- my passion has always been literacy and language. That bug bit me for THIS line of work, and it can be done. To bad your first "sell" is going to have to be on your husband. I'm fortunate, my fiance just joined me in our marketing efforts. I have been receiving excellent training so I DON'T have to advertise my business, and in turn, I've been able to turn the training I've received to train others -- it all stems from the ability to teach. It's a means to earning some up-front cash flow while you build your business on the back end. Something you clearly have the ability to do. If ever you want to converse, find me here. Eric Walker
