About Me
Hi, my name is Tanya Outridge and I live on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland Australia with my husband Cameron, and our three children Maggie, William and Imogen.
Cameron and I met at University in 1988, where he was studying Journalism and I was studying Behavioral Science. After graduating, we both went out into the workforce into our first full time jobs. It was the done thing (after all, you can't waste a University degree, can you?). Although to a large extent, it went against the grain for us both. We have both come from entrepreneurial backgrounds, neither of us had ever seen our parents go out to work for someone else.
Suffice it to say, it was an experience that we were both keen to step out of quickly. It was stifling to be beholden to a boss, and to march to someone's elses tune. Having said that, there is no wasted experience, it taught us both what we didn't want (to spend our lives as employees).
In January 1996, we took a pretty huge step, and bought a community newspaper called The Range News in a small country town called Maleny (on the Sunshine Coast Hinterland). Absolutely terrifying thing to do, as we mortgaged our house to buy it, neither of us had ever run a newspaper or a business before, and we had a one year old baby in tow.
But we both had a passion for business, and as we dived into the experience, we realized that we also derived enormous satisfaction from helping other "mum and dad" business people to grow their own businesses through strategic and intelligent advertising.
It was an incredible journey. And we broke a lot of new ground in our industry. We learnt about direct response marketing and long copy advertising. We learnt how to sell more, to our exisitng client base, and how to increase the effectiveness of their advertising so that they not only gave us repeat business, but were our most passionate advocates.
We expanded our circulation from 6,500 copies and an estimated readership of 13,000 people per week, to 14,500 copies and 30,000 people per week. We changed format from A4 to tabloid, introduced color, gloss, dedicated business features (advertorials) and a Real Estate section. As our sales figures grew dramatically, we caught the attention of a large media company, APN Australian Publishing, and at the end of 2006, they made us an offer we couldn't refuse.
After we had sold the paper, we looked to the home business industry as an alternative business model. We definitely wanted to have our own business again, but without production issues, staff, distributors and debtors.
Our first company was an eye opening experience, and it was there that we were taught "old school" marketing methods. We didn't last long. It was not a good fit for us and seemed to be a step backward, to be honest.
After we joined our current opportunity, we found that we had a powerful combined skill set, for marketing online. After four months of marketing, we were recognized with a Master Marketers Award. We knew that we had found a vehicle for all of our passions.
As we got deeper into our business, we could see that not everyone on our team was able to get up and running as smoothly as we had. The reasons for this are many and varied, but it forced us to put on our entrepreneurial thinking caps and develop an outsourcing solution for consultants on our team. It is a boutique set up service, which engages the principles of Attraction and Information Marketing , and integrates them into a fully customized blog.
We had the inspiration to take this path from listening to the original MLM Traffic Formula, back in early 2008. We knew that there was a lot of money to be made online, for those who had a powerful and watertight sales and marketing pipeline in place to attract, fund and automate their marketing.
It is the same system we have used to build our business, and we are thrilled to see our consultants achieving sales quickly through their new systems.
So once again, we have been fortunate that we can use our professional publishing skills to help other business people build their own businesses. It is an amazing privilege.
