About Me
Thank you for visiting my profile.
My story started when I was born in London, England then moving as a young child to Rhodesia in Southern Africa. My parents started farming and I was expected to help with farm chores from a young age. I was fortunate to be given my first horse at the age of 7. Learning to ride and care for my horse was the start of a life long passion for horses. My parents, were of the belief that hard work was the foundation of self discipline. Excuses for poor performance, particularly relating to farm duties, care for livestock and school work were not accepted.
After completing high school, I decided to forego university and work for my father, drought put an end to that dream so I got a sales position. With the terrorist war escalating and seeing no future for my young family, I moved to South Africa only to see my job disappear after a few months. Out of desperation, I became a commission only salesman selling firstly wall coatings, then life assurance door to door.
Two years later, I was fortunate to join a large consumer and industrial food products company. 10 years later, I was Marketing Manager for consumer, industrial and export markets.
Eventually, tiring of the corporate world, I started my own food packing and export trading company, selling various products and commodities to many African countries. Four years later, civil wars in two major markets, effectively put me out of business and because of personal guarantees, I lost all my assets.
Jobs in the "New" South Africa were scarce, I returned to Zimbabwe (formerly Rhodesia) started consulting, then started another food packing business. My new partner had inherited her late parents farm, I sold my business and used the proceeds to develop the farm. Six years later, with the farm being a significant exporter of produce to Europe and employing up to 180 people, the Zimbabwe government started illegally and violently forcing commercial farmers off their farms. We held out through 3 years of death threats, intimidation and theft until finally in November 2002, I was illegally arrested by the police, interrogated for hours and thrown in a filthy police cell with 26 common criminals. 3 days later, I was brought before a "kangaroo" court and told that if I agreed not to go back to my farm I would be released, alternatively, I would be imprisoned for at least another 6 months.
Having again lost all our assets, we moved to Canada at age 54 with 2 suitcases and a horse saddle each to start a new life.
I am very grateful to be alive, healthy and safe in my new country, I am fortunate to live on a farm with Sue my partner, 5 horses, 6 cats and a dog.
My experiences have given me a unique ability to study survival, recovery and starting over "at the coal face", I use this ability through speaking, coaching and network marketing to help people survive and overcome challenges in their lives brought on by the current financial chaos.
The articles and posts that I have read show me that this a great community, I am very pleased to have found it and hope that I can contribute to the success of Network Marketing.
