Is an EBook free if you have to give your personal details to aquire it?

What do you think about people offering you Free Ebooks out of the goodness of their heart by way of an introduction?

My take on it is that if I am sent to a capture page where I have to submit my email and details then the Free Ebook was NOT free. I have paid for it with my details.

So are these people really interested in helping me, or are they just trying to build their list?

I would suggest they are list builders and helping me is only something they will do as long as its benefiting themselves.
