71% Male, 15% Female, 14% Pervert?

Read More: Marketing

This video is about a guy who was determined to do a little experiment on an apparent web phenomenon called "Chat-roulette."

I have never used Chat-roulette but have heard some interesting stories from a few friends...

So what does this have to do with your home business?

Hmm... let's see Tongue out

Lesson #1: KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE

Marketing provides by far the highest leverage a business can possibly wish for in terms of ROI (return on investment).

Chat-roulette's marketing is based almost entirely off of word of mouth advertising.

(Word of mouth advertising... sound familiar?)

So this guy Casey conducted a personal experiment to explain Chat-roulette's demographics:

The results came out to: 71% Male, 15% Female and 14% Pervert.

How about THAT for real stats, huh ;-) ?

Lesson #2: HOW TO GET ATTENTION, APPEAL TO, AND BUILD RAPPORT WITH THAT AUDIENCE

This BIG lesson came at the 3:00 mark.

He did something interesting to DRAMATICALLY reduce the ratio of being "nexted" by others.

In fact... 10 TIMES less likely to be nexted!!!

Insanity - Doing the same thing over and over expecting different results.

As network marketing professionals, we're taught to learn  the ropes from those that have done it before and duplicate their efforts.

It is a beautiful concept...

Duplicating like carbon copies...

With only one challenge.

Human intervention.

Humans are dominated by their emotions (yes, I'm the analytical type, yet I have to admit to this fact!)...

And emotions dictate our lives, which means we MUST learn to not only adapt, but adjust.

We're very much in a relationship business, and that's what makes me LOVE this industry so much.

The people.

But in order to succeed in this business, we MUST develop the relationships with our teammates...

And before they are teammates, they were prospects...

And before they were prospects, they were strangers...

I'm sure you got the message here.

How we handle that FIRST conversation has profound effects on not just our eventual outcome in business, but also all the steps in between!

If you've been going through the motions of trying to "show them the plan" but having limited or no success at all, there's probably a few things that need to be tweaked (hint: it's sometimes external, but MOSTLY internal... SHOCKING, isn't it?).

I'm friends with a good group of leaders in the industry...

and they've never ceased to amaze me with their specific individual talents in different areas of the business.

Mike Dillard's brilliance in building info marketing funnels that deliver great value to the customers...

Jim Yaghi's unanimous status as the king of getting leads from Pay-Per-Click marketing...

Fernando Ceballos' uncanny ability to help people (including me!) dominate Google search results to build their lists...

And I suspect that you can learn a thing or two from this guy who's perfected the art of connecting with people, following up and turning them into teammates/downlines and money! (with a ton of results to back up my opinion of him)!

Dream ENORMOUS,

Very insightful! I would

Very insightful! I would like to know how to BNW community thinks this study plays apart in what we do as marketer. Do people "next us".

Most people using chat roulette looking for someone funny to look at. When we market us. There is a image we portray what is the image you what to express. What is the experience you wan to customers to feel.

Please take a look at this video what do you feel? Tell me your stories. Please check out http://prostarprofits.com/html/fun

niiiiiice

Jerry,
just the day before yesterday, i was totally wondering whether BN would let you embed a video into an article. clearly, yes. lol you saved me wondering thank you!

jim

Let's chat

@Chris - Yup, what image we successfully create in the mind (which doesn't mean we have to be inauthentic, by the way) of our prospects greatly affect how they interact with us. Not that we have to turn from a guy into a girl ;)

@Jimyaghi - What is up, bro! Answer my IM's, dude... LOL.

Fun video, isn't it?

This post was created a "video," not an "article." I know it looks like an article.

If you start an "article" you won't be able to embed anything :( Hence, go the video route, and the video will be on top.

I don't know if I was in "popular today" all yesterday... but I did see it on the front page throughout the afternoon.

Google Switch is a great read :D Especially the stories!

Talk soon,
@jerrycchen

Nexting is a habit

We all do it everyday, some days more than others, depending upon our priorities at the time and how tuned into WIIFM we are ('What's In It For Me?). On websites, you have about 8 seconds to grab a visitor's attention. Remember, that song with Youssou N'Dour and Neneh Cherry 'Seven Seconds'. It's all about whether we want to waste our precious time and energy isn't it. Interestingly, this video confirms research done about employment practice. Apparently the taller and better looking you are, the more likely you get taken on... for better or worse... We need to be aware that folk have many demands on their attention and not get complacent in our marketing.
I loved the structure of this vid: imagery and music selections.

interesting subject

Sounds like a voyeur paradise...but also a great learning experience for all.

As Denise states...you have 8 seconds. You either have to learn how to connect or your contact is gone. I'm sure there are many tricks to get noticed and connect...but we all have to learn that skill to succeed.

Interesting post...

To Your Continued Success,
Bill

Thanks for the technology update--will it pass the time test?

This was very fascinating to look into this world! Thank you.

Louise Shickle — Mon, 06/21/2010 - 11:47am

Just a little wierd!

The article is quite different. I really don't think I will chat here at any time soon. But it does give one something to think about. (a bit creepy)

Gerri Stechschulte — Mon, 06/21/2010 - 1:15pm

Interesting but is it useful in the real world?

Well thought out video but it poses a question about what the aim of using it in marketing is other than doing research into human behaviour. It is very important to know your market but I suspect you would be stretched to find the right targets here- amongst the teeny boppers & perverts with tissue box handy.
I'm sure most people who use chat-roulette are not looking for business opportunities but rather reaching out to the world due to their social inadequacies, whatever they may be.
With anonymity in mind, you run the risk of connecting with people only too willing to provide false information which won't benefit a serious entrepreneur building a network.

Patrick Hardy — Mon, 06/21/2010 - 3:07pm

The next gotta do.

I shared this on Face-book and am going to calculate how long it is before its the hot topic of the day within my group. Great video and somewhat insightful as to what lengths people will go to avoid face to face contact! My business requires me to deal directly in person with clients and believe me, there are times a click and their gone would be nice! If you want people to stop on your cam all you have to do is have the cam show nothing but a $100 bill. That should increase the gawking time immensely!! Great Job......

Russell Gruner — Mon, 06/21/2010 - 3:22pm

Watch, Read and Share...

This video was well made for sure... and while the subject of the video content might seem unrelated, please read the article below the video of the lessons I learned from it.

@Denise - Right on ;)

@Bill - lol. Voyeur is the right word... no doubt. An interesting way to learn a serious subject. The more we understand what people REALLY think and behave... the better off we will be in business.

@Louise - Thanks for watching. Hope you had a laugh :)

@Gerri - Hahahha. Weird it is. Btw, I just used it as a case study. Casey did a great job with the video.

@Patrick - Marketing is 100% about understanding human behavior and using that to the advantage of the business owner (in an ethical way, hopefully).

@Russell - Do let us know what your group think about this subject.

Jerry Chen — Mon, 06/21/2010 - 4:17pm

Made me think....

This was a great video - thanks so much for sharing, Jerry!

We do have just a few seconds (I don't even think it's 8) to catch a viewer's attention. Is what we have to offer interesting enough to make someone stop and say, "Hmmm...interesting...let me check this out more..."? If not, then what can we do as marketers to change that??

It makes me think about what I'm sharing with others. It's time to look at my presence and see what could be changed to "next-proof" those sites - at least for longer than a few seconds.... :)

Clarissa Winchester — Mon, 06/21/2010 - 5:03pm

Don't Get Nexted

As website owners, we all have to try not to get nexted by our viewers. We must come up with something that says to them "it's worth your time to hang around for a while." Headlines that attack your visitors biggest wants/desires can usually do the trick, at least for a few seconds. Then its up to you to deliver the goods.

Very interesting video. It's always cool to look at business/marketing from a fresh perspective.

Greg Vining — Mon, 06/21/2010 - 8:51pm

What you got under those sleeves?

@Clarissa - Yup, attention span is what every marketer battles against. Understanding our audience makes that job much easier!

@Greg - Right on. I'd say "attract" more than "attack" ;)

Think about how different videos, articles and other types of content got promoted by Jason Better each week. There is A TON of content on this site, but which ones get picked and promoted? There are big lessons to be learned and applied in all our businesses by studying those newsletters...
