How to Create a Favicon for Your Blog in Under 2 Minutes

Read More: Blogging

If you have your own blog, add a little something extra with a custom Favicon.  Don't know what a Favicon is?  Look up at your browser's address bar right now...see the small icon to the left of the better networker url?  That's the Favicon.   Create one for your own blog or website in under two minutes.

Depending upon your blog theme, you should be able to simply add the Favicon from your Wordpress dashboard.  However, if your theme does not offer that option, simply name your image  "favicon.ico"  (without the quotes) and upload it to your web hosting account in the home root of your account (not in the image folder or any other...so the link would be www.YourDomain.com/favicon.ico  ) Your Favicon will now appear as part of your domain name. Laughing  You may have to clear your cache or refresh your page to see it.

Your blog theme developer may also have documention on how to add Favicon's to your blog...be sure to check with them as well.  Generally, they should have a FAQ section or a Support forum where that question has been asked before.  If not, send them an email and ask.  Some theme developers make that super easy to add and others do not.

Marketing in the browser's address bar!

Great tip Robin! I've used favicons for years on my sites for brand recognition. Under 2 minutes to create, that's the fastest I've seen!

Not relavent to the Favicon

Hi Dinesh!

Did you mean to post this message elsewhere. This does not realy fit in with the video blog post for Favicons.

David Gardner — Thu, 06/10/2010 - 3:47pm

Thanks for the Compliments...

Thanks so much for the kind words.... so glad you all found it helpful. We will be putting a second video up shortly about how to upload it to your site. We've had a number of questions about that and we thought perhaps a video tutorial on uploading would help.... :-)

@ Dave Gardner.... checked out your favicon... cool! And, nice looking site as well!

Another uploading tip....

So glad it's been helpful! I wanted to also share a tip we received on the blog from Eddie Espiritu... there are WordPress plug-ins available (he used WordpressMU Favicon ) to help upload those favicons to your WordPress blog if your current theme does not already have a place for that....
