Hi Diane,

Thanks for this great video.
I do remember the sound of Charlie Brown's teacher from the past.
Good memories....
Here's to a new decade where the whan whan whan whan will disappear and make way for something even greater than ourselves.
Thanks for all that you do.

God Bless,
-ed

I always thought that was funny...

...Especially when I was in grade school and listening to a teacher drone on about something I could care less about.

Our job is to be Lucy.

Remember?
She was the one who would pull the ball away right before Charlie Brown was about to kick it!

What do I mean by that?
Am I saying to be a jerk to your fellow Networkers?
No!

All I'm saying is you need to !WAKE THEM UP! so they will pay attention to what you have to say.

If you sound just like everyone else, they'll zone you out --
Just like they do to everyone else.

So throw 'em a curveball.
Say something that will get people to pay attention to you.
Stand out from the crowd.

ROCK THE BOAT A LITTLE ;)

Be yourself.

I'm warning you, though, you might just become successful doing this.

Then you'll REALLY stand out from the crowd!

Just make sure you're ready for that ;)

No more "whaa whaa whaa"?

Great article!
But,as long as there are inexperienced Guru Wannbes, I'm not sure the odious sound of "whaa whaa whaa" will go away.

Since I am relatively new to all this, I appreciate a fresh point of view. God forbid and strike me down if I ever do another "whaa whaa" You Tube video, cause I'm as guilty as the rest.

FYI: At the end of '09, I deleted about 3/4th of my videos and have saved only the ones I think have real content and value. Which is what I think people are looking for.

How do I know this? It's because it's what I am looking for.

J Gary Dean — Mon, 01/04/2010 - 10:12am

Thanks Diana

Hi Diane,

What a refreshing article - thanks a lot. I need to do the same as Gary Dean and review some of my earlier content!

All the best for 2010 and keep up the great work in bringing people down to earth.

Learn The Skill

Diane,
I love your in your face message that tells it like it is.

Learn the skill. It is the MAGIC bullet. Each time you do the skill you get better. Each skill you learn you get better. If you do that each and everyday you only have one path, and that is, to get better!

It has been said time and time again: In your business you are running a marathon not a sprint. If you do not know what that means test it out. Go run a sprint and then run a marathon length. You will figure out very quickly that your mind will be the one to keep you going! You will also figure out that it will take time to train to be able to go the distance!

Do something today to improve yourself!

Thanks Diane, great video!

Success to all, Mike

The New Gaurd...

Hi Diane,

Great advice...Yet, wouldn't you agree that we all still need to market ourselves and 'brand' who we are? You're not saying we should simply go back to selling our product or service without building a business around ourselves, are you?

Did your success come from 'self branding' or simply selling a product? Don't forget what got you to where you are. Hard work, belief in yourself, persistence and trial and error.

Like you said, "it's a new decade, when the decade changes the environment changes." Perhaps the change in environment should be for each of us to realize we're simply the hosts. Regardless of experience of level of success, we're all just standing at the door welcoming others to the party.

Let's all have a good time and enjoy the party for what it is. A place to come to learn and share our victories and our losses.

Thanks Diane, very thought provoking video.

True Leadership is NOT Noise

Hey Diane,

Great video, but I'm not sure I completely agree with you. It is true that the people who are the best marketers are the ones who learn how to offer real VALUE. But what value does a newbie have? Not much. They have to rely on systems. Eventually, the cream rises to the top. The ones who study, learn, attend seminars, webinars, etc, finally GET IT. It is then that their content becomes valuable, and they start attracting the type of leads that they need to grow a successful business. If they did not go through the process, that would have never happened.

You slam people for posting "blah blah blah" as it offers no value. And I agree its becoming annoying. But what is the solution for these people? I actually applaud them for trying. I'm not saying their content is good. I'm just proud of them for putting themselves out there, and getting in the game. I encourage every single one of them to continue.

As Woody Allen said so eloquently: "Eighty percent of success is showing up."

Best,

Shecky

"I actually applaud them for trying. I'm not saying their content is good. I'm just proud of them for putting themselves out there, and getting in the game. I encourage every single one of them to continue."

I agree, it's all part of the learning process.

But we all need to find a UNIQUE angle --
Something to set ourselves apart.

Derek Alvarez — Mon, 01/04/2010 - 11:59am

I Totally Agree with Diane Hochman

Education and training is the best route. Just like you said Diane...learn the fundamentals and how to use them which will set you apart from others.

Agree & Disagree

Yes I agree because I am a newby and everytime I go on line to someone's website to learn something they either want me to join their company or buy something. Very Frustrating. On the other hand I disagree because this is how I was introduced to the "Internet Marketing" business. There are pros & cons about every thing one does in business and out. Not everyone is going to agree so we all have to do what we can and learn what fits us best then do it until we can move on to something else. Thanks for the video, it's good food for thought.

Love Charlie Brown...

Love Charlie Brown, but hate that sound. Yes it seems that everyday there at least 2 or 3 new products being "launched" - it feels a lot like over-kill. I don't think that all or any of the products are "bad" or "junk", but you don't need to purchase everyone of them. Check them out, but be selective. Ignore the hype and check the facts, if it is something that will add to your knowledge great, if not move on. If you are on a tight budget, look at the free stuff first, and when your budget allows pick something that gives you the most for your buck.

The Missing Ingredients...

As always Diane ... you find the most entertaining ways to communicate your heart driven messages...which is what makes them YOU-nique... and very easily absorbed by those that are ready to learn the lesson...

EVERYTHING is a system ... a RECIPE ...

Here is the problem with recipes ... and I am an expert on this after 20+ years of training thousands of cooks...

I give the same recipe to 5 cooks ... I give them exactly the same ingredients ... exactly the same equipment ... and I end up with 5 DIFFERENT end products ... the products are all SIMILAR ... but noticeably different ... some look and taste BETTER than the original recipe ... some look the same but taste completely different...some look different but taste the same as the original...

HMMMMMM..how could something like that happen if EVERYONE is using the SAME RECIPE...???

The answer is really simple ...

everyone has a different set of skills ...
everyone has a different set of taste buds ...
everyone has their own interpretation on how that recipe be should be made...
everyone is UNIQUELY themselves and it shows in the results...

BECAUSE of the white noise being created by the promotion of fully brandable cookie cutter "systems"...some key ingredients of the network marketing success recipe are being left out... authenticity and transparency ...

Being authentic and transparent is VERY original, VERY entertaining and guarantees that the right people hear the right message for them ... it is a message that is delivered from one heart to another...VERY influential...VERY attractive... and as Derek says ... it "Wakes People Up"

And here is what is really cool about that...

You don't have to be a GURU to exercise that kind of influence ... all you have to do is be yourself and be straight with people... Everyone has to start someplace and the right place to start is with yourself...your burning desire and enthusiasm. That's how the legends became legends.

The right people will find you ... all while you are being trained and educated to step into a leadership role by someone who resonates with you and where you want to go with your business... your YOU-nique message sets you above the noise ...people listen...and before you know it...you are influencing thousands of people and are a thriving entrepreneur and a leader...

Even better...this works offline and online !!

Rose Mis — Mon, 01/04/2010 - 7:32pm

thanks for your point

I hope that all the pseudo guru's will finally realize they could change for the best!
Like you Diane, I am tired of all that, and glad someone told us how crazy it is now.
Thanks for let us think about ourself, our work and the value we give to the community

Thank You Rose

This is EXACTLY how I wanted to respond to Shecky's comment but I been burning the midnight oil and didn't have the words at this hour.

You said:

"Being authentic and transparent is VERY original, VERY entertaining and guarantees that the right people hear the right message for them ... it is a message that is delivered from one heart to another...VERY influential...VERY attractive... and as Derek says ... it "Wakes People Up""

When you are transparent and original...there is no WAH WAH WAH...

Old timer or newbie ...pro or novice...

It is just MUSIC when you are DOING YOU...

Or at least music to the RIGHT person...

The one who matches you...

And THIS is the basis of attraction marketing.

It's hard to attract the prospect that is meant to find you when
you are not being yourself but a system DRONE.

What value can a new guy bring as Shecky asked?

A TON.

And his words and thoughts are uniquely valuable.

And over the last 2 years I have watched newbie after newbie who is "singing their own song" and attracting people like CRAZY.

Diane Hochman — Tue, 01/05/2010 - 1:44am

I Very Much Agree

Thanks Diane,

I am a newbie and feel very frustrated every time I go to someone's site and it is just another buy what I have to offer to get where I've gotten. It sometimes seems that the gurus are all just blending into one. Loved what you had to say. Someone needed to say it! Angela Polite

Jibberish

Everyone is trying to get their piece of the pie and they want it now. That's why I like it when I find communities like this site to belong to. If you want to have a good website built for you, then research websites so you know what you are looking for. If you want SEO rankings for your website, research SEO get an understanding of what it is and how it will affect your site, so you will know what questions to ask a company that is going to do the SEO for your site. Don't just believe some spam email that you received in your mailbox. Research more than one company. Do your homework research the things that you are unsure of before you jump into a project that you know little about.
Would you buy a house from an ad in the paper, without going to look at it or researching the housing market in that area? You are probably not going to buy it. The internet is the same, Research before you buy.Learn about the service someone is wanting to sell you, and research other companies providing the same service. If you do decide on a company call them up and ask questions on how they can help your business by using their services. Most reputable companies will be glad to answer any questions that you have. You may find out they are not the answer for you business. You may find out that this isn't even the type of service your company needs.
Most successful businesses take alot of hard work to get where they are, if you try and take shortcuts most come back to bite you in the butt in the long run. Do your research, ask questions then the jibberish will start making sense and if it doesn't, it is probably just "jibberish" and you don't need it.

Excellent Point

You're Right. The internet is bombarded with so many people who claim to have the Magic Formula for building a successful network marketing business in record time. It's confusing. Who should we believe. No wonder we develop the Charlie Brown syndrome...Blah...Blah...Blah.

Sharon Sanchez — Wed, 01/06/2010 - 8:48pm

The Fear Factor

People are afraid to make ther own decisions, because if they fail it would be their fault. So they keep trying to find the magic formula from somone who says they have one That's why there are so many gurus out there.
Just be you, get out there and work your business, make mistakes, learn from them and always keep YOUR momentum going You might even like the person you've become from YOUR personal growth.
