Tom is only 90% of the problem

Although I agree 100% with mike and everyone else about personal responsablity to educate ourselves on what it takes to be successful in this industry. I believe that alot of the problem comes from sponsors that sell a bunch of hype and don't reveal what you really have to do to be successfull, he was probably told "this is easy just join with me and I'll lead you to the promise land" then the sponsor was nowhere to be found so you have to teach yourself everything when you thought you were joining someone that was going to share real world effective strategies. Isn't it kinda funny that every mlm company says they have an awesome system etc... just join and use our replicated this and that and bamm you will have a million bucks but in reality we know you must create your own sales funnel for any of these mlms to work like they should.

This last week that I became

This last week that I became member of the Trump Network...they did not accept my money until I take 3 Three ways call, folowing two more calls. One of them was to clarify my goals...GOAL SETTING!! Why?
Once a person sets a goal a series of natural occurences begin to take place.
Lst's take this business as a GAME-if you do not have fun you are unemployed- then let's assume the goal is "TO PLAY A BIGGER, BETTER GAME''.
What happen then? Mentally you have directed your attention and you self into:
1** A new game. Eighter you find fun or you are done.
2** A new rol or roles...Down and up lines at the same time.
3** New rules.
4** New terminology.
5** NEW SKILLS.
6** NEW PLAYERS.
7** New opponents.
8** New rewards.
9** New penalties...employee mindset less dollars--entrepreneur mindset the consecuences are failure.

When you begin to run into your lack of LITERACY and awareness in the area. Possessing litlle or no familiarity with the nomenclature, terminology, and symblos can leave you BLANCK, feeling somewhat stupid, badly confused, and partially overwelmed. This creates -IF NOT HANDLED PROPERLY BY THE LEADER-a chronic situation of an willingness to face up to and handle your own or others's goals. These goals have become ''TOO PAINTFUL''. This sets up the mutual avoidance of your own and other's goals.
With the Trump Network I have been trained with five consecutives videos from he doctor to teach me how to take the samples of my urine and how to send it to the Lab and how to duplicate the same with my down-line...it is not complicated at all as I thought.Without the proper training I would have objected that it sounds too complicated...but it is not.
Botton line is... if you are having a decent monthly income being a bad leader...CAN YOU IMAGINE HOW BETTER OFF YOU WOULD BE IF YOU LEARN TO BE A GOOD LEADER.

There is hope for the hopeless... Success is a choice....

Complaining will KILL your chances for success!

Wow... There have been a lot of great posts. I completely understand the frustration of the "Tom's" out there, as I guess I once was.

I did alot of complaining at one time.

"The company website wasn't good enough" "I didn't have a presentation"
"I didn't have the right presentation" "Presentation wasn't good enough"

Blah... Blah... Blah...

Funny thing was... people all around me were having success.

I remember talking to someone making a substancial amount more then me one night... heres the thing... she was sending people to the same website I refused to send people to and she was having success.

I said to her complaining..."but the website sucks" and she said, "I know but thats what we have to work with for now..." What a concept.

I complained to corporate one day saying, "I need a presentation that shows how easy and great our opportunity is because people don't want to have to "sell anything"... and she said to me... "What are you talking about... THIS IS SALES..."

What a concept... THIS IS SALES, whether you are selling yourself as a leader, your team for support, your product for its benefits, your comp plan for the money, your opportunity... whatever... it is sales.

Further more, your building a SALES FORCE; a sales organization.

If you do not understand your true business model, you need to study it. Find out what this industry is about.

Guess what my business changed when I changed...

The truth is lots of different strategies work. In fact warm market works if you know how to work it. The only problem I found is eventually you run out of people. If you are struggling, get the right training. Black Belt Recruiting is great for this, so is Mark Weisers' Surefire Sponsoring. Dani Johnson is a great business coach. Get them all...

This is a business based on relationships and the movement of product. The more relationships you build whether online or offline, the quicker you will succeed.

Knowledge is power, but then you must put the new skill to action and turn it into "activity knowledge".

Knowledge + Action = Activity Knowledge

First you learn, then you place that into action... the true lesson comes from the activity. The more activity you engage in the better you will get.

Conviction pays big money in this field. 95% Mental (How you think) & 5% Action (What you do)

There are hundreds of thousands of dissatisfied networkers out there, hence why Magnetic Sponsoring works. If you can lead others to success they will follow you. If you can't lead... they won’t follow!

You must be worthy of being followed... If your not today, that’s ok, learn... act... learn... act... you will get there.

You must model for your team what you want them to follow. You must do yourself what you want your team to do.

If you are still trying to figure it out find someone that can mentor you.

Audio programs help... Mike Dillard... Mark Weiser... Dani Johnson... Brian Tracy... Jim John... All great leaders / trainers in this industry who offer different approaches to building your business... In the end though the choice is yours.

To Your Ultimate Success...

In my life’s journey I

In my life’s journey I have learnt one very important lesson.....optimal performance occurs when all parts of the machine are in balance, each part must do its job. Without this balance it will not work. And this is no different in a MLM business. For an upline to move up the compensation plan you must teach, mentor and support downline, unless of course you have been recruited into a scam. And for a new distributor to know how to become an “upline” you must want to learn how, take action and not expect your upline to build your business for you. “Responsibility” can never be on one set of shoulders because the genuine MLM machine was never built to work that way. In my observations and experience with my current MLM business, I now know this... I joined to make money, I stay because the company, the products, the people (both leaders and misleaders), and the resources promoted across all MLM networks has made me a better person...and I measure this success not on how many people like me but instead on how I like myself. I too, like Tom, Jim and many, many more have been mislead by upline. In the beginning I expected to be rollin’ in the cash right now but I am not, but I am oozing with knowledge, and with knowledge comes power. I have been operating my MLM business for 2 years now and I don’t expect to be hitting any of the higher income levels for at least another 3 years. Why? Because I am still learning how to sell, but not my MLM product, I am still learning how to sell myself as being the “upline” that you and anyone else would like to learn from and be mentored by. So, every day I learn, I act, I teach, I learn, I act, I teach, I learn, I act, I teach.

You will fail a MLM business every time if your sole reason as to why you joined is because you thought that it was your meal ticket out of doom & gloom. If you joined because you wanted to get rich quick, well I am sorry but the only thing that will happen quickly is your departure for the next ‘fad’ opportunity. If you have been a member of multiple MLM businesses and still have not achieved your ultimate goal of financial freedom, then you must stop and evaluate that the only variable that exists in every opportunity is “you”. This time around instead of changing your opportunity, change yourself, even if it means you put building your business on hold. You must understand one thing though, this journey is extremely hard & painful but every day you confront it and act on making it different, better, every day you are one step closer to living the life you dream of.

Once your mindset is in a place where you can see the importance of everything being in balance and the result is imbalance in your MLM, then move on but instead of looking at the quick $$$ for your next opportunity, look for the leader behind the offer. A true leader will show you the steps you need to take to become successful and their hands will be nowhere near your purse or pockets, they will be on your shoulders guiding you through the highs and lows.

I urge you to listen to or read Og Mandino's book "The Greatest Mystery in The World", it opens with the following statement:

"How our earth was created and hangs suspended in space or how our minds and bodies repeatedly perform their daily miraculous functions is most difficult to comprehend, but the greatest mystery still confronting mankind is that despite all the tools tht God provided, both mental and physical, so much of humanity continues to stumble along the rocky paths of failure and sorrow, poverty and despair".

Baby Steps

Great response Mike!

We didn't learn to walk the first time we tried it. We didn't learn to talk the first time we tried it. Throughout our lives we've lived with having to learn things. And we all started at the beginning and worked our way through it.

The key here is to do just like Mike said. Start with something small, master that before you move on to the next phase. At every step of the process there are many tools available to learn from. Use as many as you can. Most resources will tell you the the same 'how to get where you want to go', but it will be told a little different from each because everybody is different. If you find someone that you can really connect with and understand, stick with them. Then apply what you learn.

Oh and have fun. If you're not enjoying what you are doing, you may find it difficult to succeed at it.

Hey Mike....great way to market your stuff.

Most always blame their upline for their lack of success. They need to go look in the mirror and go to someone above their upline who will work with them.
If it's meant to be...it's up to me.
Everyone always has to have a way out/ excuse why their not making money. Doesn't that get a little old?

Tom, You Lucky Devil!

Mike-

Thanks for taking on the role of Tom's parent.
Apparently didn't get quite enough tough love
as a child to prepare him for network marketing,
not to mention the onslaught in this group of
letters ;)

There is something to be said for using the basic
humiliation, pubic castigation, and abject
group condemnation as a teaching method.
Tom's a lucky guy- you've shaved at least
3-4 years off of his learning curve.

The touchy-feely method? Much
too slow to affect any real quantifiable
(i.e.$$$) change in Tom's behavior.

Tom, mark my words, you will be looking back
at this as the greatest break of your life.

Unless, of course, Mike was just writing of
the "Tom" in all of us ... :)

Solution Given Move Forward Tom

Thanks Mike you are right we must all take responsibilty for ourselves. There are some of us who have had this happen to us but most of us learnt the lesson a bad upline support person after all you do have your uplines contact details so if they are not doing their support thing send them a message that you don't want them anymore.

Right on target. As they say about everything in LIFE. You get What you put in. You are in business for yourself BUT not by yourself. Get Plugged in to the system, It works when you do. I always believe that if is to be it's up.

Mike hit it on the head take responsibility and re=think our stinking thinking.Only through problems, stretching etc can someone grow. If everyone could do this then Hello all would. You must do things others won't do in order to get WHAT others don't have.

A great video website that can help you learn, Train, and Recruit others is http://nfs.pipelineparable.com . Good luck to all & again Thanks because sharing both good & bad is what LIFE is about. See y at the TOP.

In his book 360 degree John

In his book 360 degree John Maxwell says that you can develop your influence FROM ANYWHERE IN THE ORGANIZATION
HE WENT ON OT SAY..." If I have to identify the number of misconception people have about leadership, it would be the belief that leadership comes simply from having a position or title...you do not need to posses a position at the top of your group, team or organization in order to lead"
He theorize that there is 5 steps to "Developing The Leader Within You"
Here it goes:
I will start from top to bottom.
**Position number 5 :PERSONHOOD ...RESPECT : in this position People follow because of who you are and what you represent Note: This step is reserved for real leaders who have spend years growing people and organizations. Very FEW MAKE IT.Those who do are bigger than life.
** Position 4: People Development: REPRODUCTION...People follow because of what YOU HAVE DONE FOR THEM. NOTE: This where long-range GROWTH OCCURS. Your commitment to developing LEADERS will ENSURE ONGOING GROWTH TO THE ORGANIZATION AND TO PEOPLE. Do whatever you can to achieve and stay on this level.
** Position 3 PRODUCTION: RESULTS: People follow because of what you have done for the organization. NOTE: THIS IS WHERE success is sensed BY MOST PEOPLE. THEY LIKE YOU AND WHAT you are doing. problems ARE FIXED with very litlle effort because of MOMENTUM.
**POSITION 2 PERMISSION...RELATIONSHIPS: People follow because they WANT TO. NOTE:People will follow you beyond your stated authority. This level allow WORK TO BE FUN. Caution : Staying too long on this level without rising will cause HIGHLY MOTIVATED PEOPLE TO BECOME RESTLESS.
**POSITION 1 POSITION : RIGHTS: People follow because THEY HAVE TO.
NOTE: Your influence will not extend beyond the lines of your job description. The linger you stay here, THE HIGHER THE TURNOVER AND THE LOWER THE MORALE.

I believe in what you said

I believe in what you said in reply to "Tom". When I first started looking for a business that I could do from home, I was "totally" new to the computer.
Briefly, here's my story.
I lost my job. A friend borrowed me a computer so I could do job searches via the net. That's about all that particular computer was good for. LOL Anyways,
As I was tinkering, looking around via the net, I came across a lot of stuff telling how you could make money from home. Due to some physical stuff, I thought this would be a great idea as the physical stuff made it hard to find a job that I could do. (That physical stuff is only an inconvenience, but does put a damper on things.)
I got hooked up with a great company. I had an upline. Now remember, I'm totally new at all and any of this computer stuff let alone doing a business online.
Any question I asked my upline, I got this answer ALL the time,
"Don't worry about that, we'll do all that for you. You don't need to know how".
Hmm I thought, screw this (not the company). I then ventured out to learn on my own, and still do. You will never learn to much.
I still use and promote the products. They're great !
I am still in the receiving mode to accept all and any advice, tutorials, etc that I can. And ya know, learning a completely new field can be a challenge, but I'm lovin it and am having a blast in the process.
So if your not getting any help from your upline. MOVE ON !
I mean, look at the help/advice etc you give Mike.
For Petes-sake all you Toms, Just press on.
A winner never quits, and a quitter never wins.

defense of tom

one of the reasons i joined magnetic sponsoring and bought the book
was because mike you were advertising the same rhetoric that tom is expressing, and yes i joined a major nw company and yes i was recruited by a very succesful nmentor and yes i did eerything and more that i was told to do and yes i worked long hours (IGNORING MY PROFITABLE BUSINESS) and yes i spent way too much money on every scheme and deal ther system promoted and yes i supported them all the way and no i did not succeed....but see i came from a sales background and after a while i began to realize just like tom that if i keep doing this and continue in this fashion i will be tired, broke and out of work...and if i used these principles in my JOB i would have no clients, no income and no business. it's time to wake up and admit the most nw companies do not inform or train their associates to be business owners or salespersons...most never wanted to be in the first place...and in the end it is always about sales...always...no shame in that but ownership and salesmanship has to be both taught and learned...if i practiced what they taught me in the other legit sales organizations i have been a part of, the companies would have gone belly up...true sales tactics do not involve
hanging signs on telephone poles, hitting people up in the bathrooms or other dehumanizing and personally compromising situations. true we are responsible for our own actions, but hey...when are we going to hold the so called guru's accountable...let's mention names, companies and organizations so others won't fall prey to their tactics...i ahve always had praise for you and MS but i think you might need to cut tom a little slack and remember where you cqme from..he is only saying what you said as you invited us to follow you out of our upline misery.....

First of all, my apologies for not leaving my name in the first place. I completely forgot in all my anger. Secondly THANK YOU mike for replying. I'll tell you how I feel about your reply Mike.

I believe you're right and your comment about the victim mentality is also probably right too.

It's not that I don't have the guts to give things a go but maybe my judgement on who is giving me the right advice neds to improve so thanks for directing me in the right way. I will certainly begin to educate myself with more reading of the right material.

My reply is that Mike is

My reply is that Mike is right. No one has said what Mike has just said to me. that's what I wanted, someone to just be honest and say, YES it IS hard work, it's not easy. Sometimes telling someone that something is easy is misdirecting them in the first place.

Sometimes I suppose it takes someone from the outside to see where we're going wrong.

Now that it's been said 'I' will be the one who will hopefully see where I'm going wrong and improve on things.

Wasim Mohammed — Sat, 05/09/2009 - 1:40pm

No Pouting Allowed

I would like to say thanks Mike for you insights & courage to say what you mean, even though some people don't agree with you, the truth needs to be said.
I know what it's like to fail & flounder in the pool of MLM's online, there's many people drowning in a sea of information, who are desperate to succeed in life.
We all have heard 95% will fail.
People need to understand that there are many variables in peoples lives, we are common human's, but we have different upbringings, races, cultures, beliefs, different day jobs/other, financial situations, etc... , but as Mike has stated over & over there are only so many mind set's.
I have been learning network marketing for about 6-7 years, on & off, partly because of my job, which chews up a lot of my time, bills keep coming in & money rolls out just as quick.
Frustration, confusion, doubt & lack of patience have plagued me all along, but I have understood that I need to keep going & persevere to learn & do. I am weary of working for others "JOB", but I refuse to blame any one for my lack of success or failures. I have only myself to blame, nobody is twisting my arm to continue in any MLM or any other form of work. Those who blame others are lacking the mentality to think for themselves & they should stay with the day job, not every one is cut out to succeed in every type of work.

Mike thanks for helping me understand this Fact, that the mindset attitude is probably our biggest enemy, once we understands this, we can begin to learn new mindset attitude.
One thing I have began to do is screen people, if they wine, complain, grumble & a big one, blame others for their failure, then I won't even waist my time with them.
If they are willing to learn & change, then I will try to assist them.
Nobody has all the answers, but we piece it together by other people knowledge, stay focused on you goal, be patient with your self & others & you will be rewarded for you efforts.
One good thing about network marketing is that you can go at your own pace, YOU dictate the time, place & info learned. If you are afraid that you may be miss lead, than YOU are not reading enough!
"Let every word be established by two or three witnesses" Holy Bible

If one person said something & 2 or 3 others say something other wise, then you best be reviewing you info again.

WOW, there sure was a lot of good info given on this Thread, thanks every one for you inputs, God bless you all

PS. I believe there is hope for all at any level, just be humble enough to admit your wrong, learn from those who share truth & try your best to apply that truth. You can do this Tom!

Wasin...was a very good

Wasin...was a very good experience for you .Uh?
Why? You will become a better team leader.
If you lead a team, then you must convince your teammates to sacrifice for the good of the group. The more talented the team members, the more difficult it may be to convince them to put the team first.
Wasin begin by modeling sacrifice. Show the team that you are...
** Willing to make financial sacrifices for the team.
** Willing to keep growing for the sake of the team.
** Willing to EMPOWER others for the sake of the team.
** Willing to make difficult decisions for the sake of the team.

Once you have modeled the willingness to pay a price for the potential of the team, you have the credibility to ask others to do the same. Then when you recognize sacrifices that teammates must make for the team, show them why and how to do it. Then praise their sacrifices to their teammates.
Wasin...when you grow...and you can no longer give quality attention to all you team...how about hiring a "stay at home mother" and pay $12.00 by hour to answer questions to your teammates... do follow up to your team...you can start off just four hours a week and as your team grow you pay more hours. You can train her and teach her to be a coach...and be sure that crying babies or barking dogs are not allowed...meaning that she must know that is serious business.
You and me are new I wish you the best.

Well Put

I have to admit I have alot of respect for you Mike. More leaders need to be upfront and honest about how this industry works. We need to respect that people are new in a business, but we cannot sugar coat everything or they will not stick nor trust. I also have been in several MLM companies over the last 12 years. I have accepted that I have failed at all of them, not because it was "someone else's fault", but because there just was not enough there to hold my interest and want to wholeheartedly learn. I have never blamed my past upline. I still get e-mails from some of them. They are only teaching what they have been taught, and if they are doing it with passion, they have found their niche. Like everyone says, this is not a send my money today and tomorrow I have quadrupled it. There is a learning curve and that is not an hour a day. I don't care what anyone says. I put in almost 40 hours a week right now at my JOB. I have already written my resignation letter and dated it 90 days out. The next 40 hour work week I will be putting in will be for myself. I am the only one responsible for my actions. If "Tom" is upset, I would say he has not found his niche and he needs to keep plugging along until he finds something that causes him not to be able to even sleep whether he's making money or not. We all know that everyone signs up initially for the money and the lifestyle, but if you don't love what you're doing, success will just not be there. The one thing I love about everyone I've talked to in this industry is they shoot from the hips and that's what I need. I need to know that it is not always going to be wine and roses. Sometimes, it's going to be vinegar and thorns. Keep the honesty coming Mike. Thanks.

When I red Mike's

When I red Mike's introduction to his e-mail...I almost did not open it... almost trembling I decided to open it...actually was not mean at all.
But I want something to add though..listen up.
Anthropology teach all of us how human get organize...yes.We all are part of a TEAM of some kind or even lots of TEAMS for that matter.
And life is a GAME...all games have RULES.
If you decide to go into MLMarketing you have committed to abide by the rules...and the rules are that you are Up-line and down line at the same time...you accepted to be a part of a team that require that you build your success helping others to become successful too.Doing otherwise is not ethical... failing to keep your word is a violation... of the rules, and all violation have penalties.
If you sign a contract to play with Lakers and in the game you just decide that you will not cooperate with the whole team...that you will ask the others players take your own responsibility and even you go further and blame them of lack of responsibility... for not taking your post...that does not make ANY SENSE to me.
It is a fact 95 % fail in this industry...simply because there are very few qualified leaders.
How many times have you seen a basketball team failing miserably...and when the coach was fired and a capable coach take over ...those bad players all of a sudden are the heroes of the College or State.
I do not want to be nice with Mike for the fact that he is the founder of this community...EVEN THOUGH WASIN NEED TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY...HI UPER-LINE IS FAILING TOO.AND HE FORGOT TO SAY SO.

AburtoMiranda (not verified) — Sat, 05/09/2009 - 6:45pm

Take Resposibility

In this life we need to take responsibility. We get exactly what we expect in life not necessarily what we want. As adults we must understand that and make choices accordingly. That is why I have purchased or borrowed every self improvement program I could and the results show it. Just listened to black belt recruiting then signed up 8 new people in my chocolate business this week. I'm ahead of my sponsor in points for the cruise! The reason is simple. I made a decision that this time I'm doing the business seriously, not as a hobby. I've put the skills in place and I'm willing to do the work. The success or failure will not be at the feet of my sponsor or company. I choose the company because I believe in the product and think it is easy to teach new people. Chocolate is attractive. That was not a casual decision. I can get passionate about chocolate. What about "Tom"?

I know that I'm responsible for my actions, I agree with that. The problem I see now, is some of us trust our coach to much (me included) In the real world(not that this isn't the real world but you know what I mean)I was a pretty good salesmen, I was also good at selling myself has a person.
No one put a gun to my head to spend a bunch of money, so yes I am responsible for that. Where I went wrong and think other ppl will understand is: when we get a message that this person made 10000$ in 7 days and many more, what is not said in those adds is that person probably failed many times before( that's my opinion)I have failed many times also on the internet. I now know I'm to blame because I didn't learn the right way and was repeating the same mistake over and over. I can tell you one thing, it will not happened again.
If I fail again it will be totaly my fault because I know better now and will not loose 1000's of dollars anymore, I will make sure that I loose what I can afford to loose.
If I may, ppl like me I guess needs a slap in the face to understand, but it does sting a bit.(i'm sure you would agree)
Keep up the good work Mike but never forget where you came from.
Hope you will understand what I'm saying, and I have no problems being friends with you and will follow your advice but not blindly.
